Thoughts on using it?

I'm all for using it. It might get hecktic if say 30 people log on at the same time but that's what channels are for.

What's the big difference between teamspeak and ventrilo? i got ventrilo setup at home.

I dont know what the difference is, I just think it would make it easier to play with our groups being able to speak instead of typing out stuff.

Can anyone set up a server? How does it work? If Vonk can run it off of his webspace, I can pitch in a bit to help for the bandwidth.

I used teamspeak and ventrilo during star wars galaxies. I came to the conclusion that ventrilo is better because multiple people can talk over one another without getting feedback.

Then I opted for ventrilo again when CoH came out. Same thing, we can talk over one another without disturbance.

Now I got ventrilo for Wow and much to my surprise, we hear feedback when two people are talking at once.

Last time I went with http://www.leetservers.com. I think I'm going to wait for my month to be up on the service I am currently using and go back to leetservers. I don't why a different hosting agency would make a difference, but for some reason it does.

I always hated TS and RW for games like this

i've always found that it encourages lazy play, and people pay a lot less attention to what's going on

I don't talk to people in group with the chat interface... why would I want to listen to them banter on a pair of headphones. I was asked to join a Ventrillo group during an instance and flatly told them "no". They got the message quickly.

Fuck people who like to chit chat... I don't play this game to hear about your day, or your kid's day, or you coworker's day... anything that you need to say to me about the game you can type in a few short words: "follow me", "stop here while I pull", "Boss is next - Joe tanks, Steve heals, watch for adds".

Invariably the Ventrillo group rolls their conversation into /gu chat... and invariably it's something like "haha Dumbfuck01 - my sister said the same thing when I gave it to her anal, too! rofl!"... why do I want to join that again?

My EQ guild, Sinister Nation, used TeamSpeak for the officers. It really made things easy for those on broadband connections and worked great to discuss things while dealing with my 3 regular chat channels.

We did have an issue with people on dialup. They just couldn't raid and be in the channel without super lag.

It was soo nice having a sweet woman's voice in our ears.
And we figured out all the Mangina's....

I used TS for a pick up raid group thing I was in a while back. It made EQ a bit more fun for me. I hate reading. I'm a lazy fuck when it comes to paying attention to chat. TS got rid of that for me so I could pay more attention to other things. I'd use it if we agree on it.

I see positives and negatives. Positive, like dar, I am lazy, I assume I wouldn't have to type. Negative is that you would always hear me calling you all dumbfucks just because I am in a pissy mood.

I think its a good idea.... I will use my barry white voice and everyone will be bursting with love that no one will want to argue over chat.

It's really easy to setup Kizzy, however I don't think Vonk hosts his own server atm, which would kinda be required. Anyone can run the server if they wanted to do so. All you would need for BEST service is a static IP address, although a dynamic one is fine as long as you let everyone know each day or week when it changes what the new address is.

I've run a TS server on both situations for about a year now. The server software is easy to run and doesn't take up alot of resources. If you run it behind a firewall (duh) set your port forwarding for whatever port you setup the server on (8767 by default I believe) to forward to the machine running the server and you are good to go.

While you decide who is going to host it, would you like me to host one for you? The server I run the most often I split off into multiple branches, so you would just connect to my IP address:port number with the server password (so you don't get random french guys lookin' for love) and then could register your own nick on the server once you were on.

Reply or send me a PM for more info.

From what I understood, hosting a teamspeak server wasn't cheap.

The software is free.

Depending on how much traffic it got, I guess it COULD be expensive. We don't have a bandwidth cap per month though and are not charged for our usage.
