I drink a few Diet Cokes per week, and I'm curious if there's a real downside to this.
I've read both sides, and I'm curious what you think, Mop.

Downsides:
Will make you bloated, the aspartane is related to cancer ( also MAY cause some birth defects combined with other chemicals in children that can't process the chemical through their system) diet soda will also tear away at bones and mucles through a life time. Most carbonated drinks have the negatives of joint/bone / muscle degenerating ability. Caffine has also been linked to causing fat to redistribute through the body ( you burned fat now it is in the blood stream - it should digest and leave the body, but the caffine makes it go back to the fat cells) * though this is not proven extensivly and I don't put much faith behind it. lastly off the top of my head - it will dehydrate you.
That is a general list of negatives some solutions, DIet Rite soda doesn't use aspartane. Soda is fine limited more than a couple week isn't good for you.

Why don't they make more pop (that's right) with Splenda then? Wouldn't that solve some of the problems?

cost for the most part
regular soda would be better if made iwth pure sugar, though it is not because high fructose corn syrup is cheaper in Europe that is different so they use Sugar.
Splenda is the same type of deal, it costs more to make there for costs more to produce in soda, thus loosing profit - at the publics loss.

What is splenda? another sugar substitute?

Splenda is a sugar substitute, "made from sugar"
really itis a bunch of chemicals mixed togethe, some of which starting point was cane sugar. It tastes more like sugar and is more costly than most sugar sbstitutes and sugar for that matter. Baking splenda actually contains some sugar which is counter productive. Splenda's biggest bonus is it has less chem side effects on the body.

I know a guy who drinks four 2 liter mountain dews before lunch time every day... I'm going to laugh at him when his balls explode in a fiery blaze of diabetes.
