Ok, one of the winblows updates over the last two months has killed my CD burning capabilities on both my XP Pro boxes.

Neither Nero, Windows Media Player, or even Windows Explorer will work anymore.

I've googled and checked MS Support, but nothing is popping out.

Anyone else experienced this, or have any suggessions?

I can still burn on my Linux box, but the CD writer is 1/5 the speed....

Does your drive still show up in "My Computer"?

Shows up and plays CDs and DVDs fine. Just wont burn at all anymore. Just says no media in drive when I put a blank CD in.

Look in HKLM/system/currentcontrolset/control/class

There are a bunch of hardware keys in there. Find the one for your CD/DVD drive and look for "upperfilters" and "lowerfilters". If there is gibberish (like extended ASCII) characters for values, try deleting both keys, if not, leave them alone.

No Upper or Lower filter there. It's a brand new rig running XP Pro and a new CD-RW/DVD combo drive.
