Class soloing strategy

Ok, I'm soloing mostly with my mage and I'm starting to get rogue envy. This 32 rogue soloing next to me, I'm 33, was mowing at three times the speed I was going.
I kill, drink, kill, drink, etc. He seems to mow nonstop. Is there some strategy I'm missing. He kills like Saddam, whereis I'm more like a Kennedy.
Is there a trick to soloing or are some classes just that much better at it?

your burst dps is limited, ours however constantly regens 20 energy a tick, our downtime is every 6-7 mobs to bandage for a sec
you however can learn to maximize your burst dps and AEing mobs 1-2 levels lower than you 4-5 at a time so that when you do have down time, you've gotten alot more exp

AEing 1-3 levels lower than me has been very dodgy for me, given the mana requirements and low DPS of the mage AE spells
Also, I cannot withstand the beating of three mobs on me.
My best strat is doing 2 1-2 level lower than me mobs, then drinking. This is working ok, but it is not super efficient.
It may just be the mage is not as good a soloer, but I really like the class. It just is peeving me to see a lower level rogue mow through mobs at four times my speed.

There are perks to each class, you cant have your cake and eat it to, so to speak.
I always go after cloth wearers when leveling, provided there are some around my level, if not, i look for the Range NPCs, they have lower armor than straight melee.
It's give and take really, you just gotta find a spot where you can make the camp work well with your mana consumption.

or you could find a duo'ing partner. I plowed through the upper 50's because me and a rogue friend just blew through content, questing and grinding.

yea im gonna wait around for Lyion to catch up to me, then we can duo.

i'm a 60 mage fire build with sub arcane. I can go and kill 57-59 mobs like 5-6 in a row before i have to sit and drink. Then i kill those 5-6 in about 2-3 minutes flat so i dont know how you're trying to solo but i kill very fast . Average dps of 450-500 when soloing

whatever you do, don't watch a hunter soloing

I can solo 3-4 even lvl mobs at a time, with only downtime for bandaging
Or, i can solo 2 even lvl elites at a time with no bandaging
Best xp tho, was soloing single elites 3-4 lvls higher, earn ~1kxp per kill, need to drink maybe every 8th kill
don't get me wrong, it's not every type of mob that this is doable on, but it is viable at most stages for hunters

Atalya, I'm level 34. I'm pure fire. What did you hunt to level at 34? Right now I've been fooling around in Desolace.
I've seen Hunters solo.. It's more depressing than Rogues.
Tik, due to resists I can't kill anything 3+ levels higher than me. They completely resists all my spells. I have concerns in regards to mage viability in raids since the resists seem to be completely fubar. Why would anyone want a mage who will get 90% resists on raids, when they can have a rogue and guaranteed DPS?

Well as a Druid i can solo 3 mobs same level at same time and live at level 44.
Tho there are some that are even levels that are easier to kill than others as well.

if you need some ideas look at the Strategy: Leveling guide thread, I need to update it for 45+ but for your level I suggest Arathi highlands for trolls and some quests, u can start the princess line of quests from the stone near town, or you can grind on ogers above tarren mill (there are three caves to the east of the ruins the ogres range from lvl 34 to 36, 34 and 35 being the average.)

I have no problems finding spots to grind, my issue is how much SLOWER the mage is than other classes.
Also, I'm irked at the resist code. Its almost a waste to group a mage if you are fighting higher level mobs.

That has to be an issue how you are specced, the Census had more mages at 60 before most other classes.
If you think you have it bad, when comparing solo speed, play a warrior. =p

And people say PALADINS are unabalanced soloing? I can take an even level elite, or could in the 40s and 50s (at 60 it's something of a different story), but a +4 elite? Not a chance in bloody hell.
Warriors could use some help soloing, yeah. I know Rogues, built right, can take +1 elites no problem, especially casters, as I've seen a friend do it. It's mainly warriors that have problems.

As a shaman I can handle an elite my level.
+1 is a tossup.

I spent a month as a Warrior playing before I started my Mage. He actually levelled faster, but not by much.
I guess there's a reason why there are 8 million hunters and rogues.

Warriors and mages are regulated to solo'ing hordes of greens unfortunately for the best fastest exp.

Lyion at 34 i was soloing near hammerfall and doing quests there im supprised to see other people say mage is slow when i plowed through 3-4 mobs before i had to med at that level, try killing ogres or farmers near hammerfal maybe even water elementals,
if you have the mind for just pure grinding you can get 1 level a day there to about 40 then on to badlands for the same, i would have to say my mage killed just as fast or quicker then a rogue or hunter, personally i think mage is one of the most funnest classes to play, next to my priest.

Kaba, you also play 18 hours a day and have the patience to sit in a spot for 12 hours.
I have a new target that makes the hunter and rogues look gimp:

that won't be typical of most paladins
I typically solo, and watching other classes gives me the giggles
Paladins solo fairly well, but really slowly
I'll be killing my 4th raptor in Aarathi, while the paladin next to me is sitting drinking to recover from the 1st

Maybe it's a 30-something thing (talking about hunting Arathi still, so I'm assuming you're mid-to-high 30's), but if not, then I am seriously under-utilizing my hunter at 51.
But then, I have always been of the mind that if I can help it, single kills are more efficient than two/three pulls (although if something wanders along and agros me/ pet in the middle of a fight, I usually just concentrate on the current target, then deal with it after).
I have always been able to kill several things in a row before taking a breather. Typically, I have stuck to targets equal to +2 my level. I feel that +3's start getting inefficient with the rate of misses/ deflections/ dodges/ etc., although they are doable. Also, with +3's I might actually need to heal my pet (+3's may in fact beat my pet like a little, red-headed step-bitch). Healing is channeled, which means for 10 seconds I am doing 0 damage, which means fights will take longer, which means my pet is taking more damage over the course of the fight, which means wasting more mana/dps on healing, etc. It's a vicious cycle, spiraling down the drain of the efficiency toilet. Fights like this I will actually have to rest between.
Even-con elites are the same way. They have a boatload of hp, better-than-normal armor, and will beat the piss out of your pet (unless they're casters, in which case it's a race to see who can burn down who's hp bar the fastest). I can kill several (mobs even-to-+2lvls) in the time spent killing an even (or even -2 or -3) con elite, and will have spent less of my resources (time, ammo, potions, mana, health) in doing so.
Maybe I am just doing something horribly, horribly wrong.

I can't touch even con elites as a mage.
