Anyone else ever get them? I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. It's been causing me all sorts of fun pain the last week or so. Its one of the reasons why I am up and on NT at 3am when I have to be at work in a few hours. I can't sleep!! My surgeon is going to repair it when he does my WLS on 4/19.

WLS = Weight Loss Surgery a.k.a in my case Laparoscopic RNY Gastric Bypass.
Posted about it in another older thread around here. Major, major life change for me.....

Stayce, I know 3 people who have gotten that surgery. One didn't follow the diet, because her husband wouldn't and still wanted home cooked meals everynight, and she gained it all back as she restretched her tummy.
THe second had it done about 9 months ago, and her top half loks great but her butt is still huge.
The third lost all her weight within 6 months.
Good luck on the surgery, and follow the directions.

ya that you seemed to scarf down without an issue mr pizza ordering black and white chocolate cookie eating fewlio
Dana and I have been super lax lately with diet and {edit} I HAVE BEEN VERY SLACK BOSS {edit} exercise but that will change for me in 12 days.
Thanks guys. I know I am going to do awesome. I will do great because:
1) Awesome support group of WLS friends and family that I will always look to when things get hard.
2) One of the top surgeons in the country for this particular procedure.
3) My knowledge and 2 years of research prior to the procedure
4) I know what it takes to maintain a good exercise routine.
5) I plan to follow the rules to a T...so well that I want to be running the support groups after I am a year post op.
6) I know what it takes to fail this procedure. Failure is not an option for me.
It isn't about looks either.. it is about being healthy. I care more about my blood pressure and releving back and joint pain than the size of my ass. I'm doing this because I want to continue to be more active and pain free. Looking better and buying smaller clothing is just a bonus to me. Keep my profile bookmarked. I'll post pics and keep journaling through out the process. I find that sharing the experience with people also helps me to stay on track. It's good to have lots of people in my cheering section. Thanks!

LMAO.. Dana can fend for himself. He always has. If anything he will cook for me =) In either case we both value eating healthy even if we go through phases when we don't. Having a phase for me just isn't going to be an option anymore because if I do I will get very sick, very fast. You learn quick or you pay dearly.
THe second had it done about 9 months ago, and her top half loks great but her butt is still huge.
Is she exercising? If she started out really big it takes more time. Patients are expected to loose 70-80% depending on the surgeon. My surgeon makes exercise mandatory. You have to sign a contract and take a written test before he will even do the surgery not to mention all the tons of pre-op tests (xrays, blood work, etc). He also makes it mandatory that you attend follow up 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 9 months, 1 year, and once a year every year for the rest of your life. We also have to attend support groups and see a nutritionist. If needed, I also have no problem going into therapy as well. Having Dana to support me with personal training is also a huge bonus.
The third lost all her weight within 6 months.
Many do. The trick is keeping it off. About 25% of people do gain weight back after surgery. Keep in mind that 95% of people that go on diets gain all the weight back they loose and plus. The critical time is that first couple years but by year 2 you hit another critical point where all the excitment slows down and you forget where you came from. I am aware of this so I know to look out for it. I also have the added motivation that I want to be a mommy too once I hit that 2 year mark. In many cases this procedure increases your fertility but of course until you are stable you are forbidden to get pregnant. They tell you 18 months - 2 years you need to be really careful.
Good luck on the surgery, and follow the directions.
Thanks! You bet I will!

When I met you and Dana this summer the first thing that crossed my mind was what a beautiful person you are. Inside and Out. You are getting this done for the right reasons. I hope it works out.
The second thing to go through my mind was if I could con you into taking my youngest demon. He really liked Dana and asks about you guys when he goes to bed at night. (He still sleeps with that bear you gave him)
The third thing that went through my mind was wondering if Dana had an erection at the dolphin show, he was overly excited.
