So is like every item I pick up salvageable? What do I need to save? What does "precious" mean? I'm still in the noob area (level 7) but where can I make armor/weapons and stuff? I haven't seen any crafters yet. Where the hell can i get more bags? All I have is the one they give you and a 5 slot belt from a quest. I have a Monk/Mesmer, what are the "must have" spells I should be using all the time? K thx

Roll a 10 sided die at home. If it ends up in an odd number, you are to loot the item. Even means you are to defer.
The 7 sided die is used for whether or not to exercise. If it lands on an 8, you are to excercise. The other numbers reflect the need to order a pizza and type online with greasy fingers.

1) almost every item you pick up can be salvaged. There are collectors for the strange drops (seeds, husks). You can chose to sell or salvage the weapons. You will also find salvage items later in the game (gear, mass, etc).
2) At the start, I would save those items that collectors are searching for. In the newbie area, you can get slightly better armor and there is one weapon crafter in the city who will make you weapons and essentially bind the weapon to you giving it a damage bonus.
3) "Precious" means it will sell more to the vendors and you have a slightly higher chance of getting a good salvage from it. "Highly salvageable" means roughly the same thing, but usually means you gt more salvage... 5 or so rather than just 1.
4) You can't get more bags in the newbie area. You have to finish and go to the academy for that. Later you can buy runes of holding which will turn your 5 slot bags into 10 slot bags. Also, there is a "bank" in each area after the newbie area which you can access for a 1 time fee of 50 gold.
5) Monk/Mesmer... hrm. I don't play a mesmer but it really depends on your build. Backfire from the Mesmer line is great in both PvP and PvE. Energy Leak is an interrupt which is also good. For a monk.... Res, the regen spell is good, there are some nice spells in protection. I don't remember teh names. If you are level 7, you probably have all the monk spells you can get. There should have been 3 quests you could do to get spells and 2 for the mesmer line. All in all, I think the game encourages experimenting a great deal. By this point, you probably have enough points to compeletely respec your character 2 or 3 times. So feel free to think up crazy combos and see what works and doesn't work.

taxx message me in game (add to friends) Kendrick Skullcrush, Aras Flamehand
i will help ya out if you need
for your questions:
Precious or Highly Salvagable are different. Precious is mostly to sell to vendors for higher prices, highly salvagable gives you a chance at multiple crafting items, or a rare crafting item. Items that are un identified have a good chance to be upgrades (if on weapons) or runes on salvage armors they come in blue purple and yellow. Doesn't really matter but you can get any kind of rune from any color as in you can get a Superior rune from a blue eventho thats pretty common and get a minor from a yellow.
You will be able to buy more bags once you reach post searing ascalon (aka out of the noob area) and you guy by runes to make the 5 slot bags to 10 (freakin 500 gold its stupid but oh well).
as a monk mesmer.. it depends. Do you want to do damage? Then go with smiting prayers.. if you want to be a support healer then go with healing prayers (heal other mending etc ... but you get those after the noob area) and domination (mesmer attribute) you want backfire empathy etc..
IMO try a few different characters. Took me like 8 characters to pick my warrior/monk.. then i made a necro/monk and elementalist/monk. All depends.
Monks are in high demand tho. Most everyone is a secondary. Since the monks that are lvl 20 and past ascension mostly suck a big fat one, everyone is strapped and have to use hench. in the last missions we had to do 2 or 3 without monks cause no monks were that far or at least were logged on
