I am interested in getting a bike and would like to hear any suggestions you guys may have. I dont want a sportsbike. If I get one this summer, it will only be used to learn on. I understand that I will surely outgrow whatever I end up getting. I am a smaller guy, 5'10, 150lbs, so I've been looking at smaller bikes.

Would like to spend around $1800 - $2000. The suzuki dealership has a new GZ250 for $2100. Or should I just get an older bike for less money (since I will probably drop it)

I start the 3 day motorcycle driving / safety course tomorrow. After riding their bikes, I should get a feel to see if I really want to pursue it

I was gonna say get a Honda for the unbeatable performance/reliability factor, but you'll be hard pressed to find one for 1800 bucks.

You can probably find a kawasaki ninja a 2000 year model for proly 1,800 bucks with like 5-10,000 miles kawasaki ninja ownz all for the money you want to pay np np.

Don't buy a motorcycle made out of plastic.

its not too hard to find a decent old Triumph for around 2k. Might not be a show piece, but the best ones arent anyways. Strip em down and they make cool bobbers.

Kill and Tossica, those are exactly the kinds of bikes I am looking for...but for my first one I will take what I can get for the most part (I wont ride a crotch rocket). A guy at work has an 86 Honda Rebel for sale for $900, I'm going to check it out this weekend.

If I were you I would look for a Honda VLX (600) it's a great learner bike and perfect after you get the hang of riding. It only weighs in at around 430lbs.

I would stay away from the Rebel, it's a very small bike and has no power at all, at some point you're going to want to ride on the freeway or over 50 -- you'll need to get the hang of it.

You can get a honda VLX for around 1800, just look around...

Teeheez, the people who won't ride a crotch rocket are the ones who don't love motorcycles. If you really loved motorcycles you'd enjoy riding any of them.

Newbies shouldn't be on crotchrockets. You should have at least a years worth of riding under your belt first. The newbs who get onto a crotch rocket and hit the brakes the first time eat pavement.

It's not a stereotype and you know it you're just being a stuborn ass. Any instructor will tell you the same thing, you need to start on something small and something that doesn't have dual disk brakes in the front. :P

Crockrockets are the worst for newbies to start with, besides most newbies crash or drop the bike at some point or another and with crotchrockets that usually involves alot of plastic damage which equals alot of money.

Taxx taught me on his crotchrocket. I loved it. Still very shaky when I ride, but I assume I will get used to it.

that's different, most people don't have someone showing them the ropes. They just hop on the bike and hit the roads and end up a stain because they pull on the brake instead of squeeze, they don't realize how much power ther e is.. It's just in general a very bad idea.

Everytime I see someone riding a crotch-rocket I have to think that they look like a monkey fucking a football

LOL just because lots of stupid younger males buy crotchrockets and think they're invincible you mean? A lighter bike is a hell of a lot easier to control than a big hog if you're not a tard with the throttle. Also who the hell uses front brakes on a crotchrocket unless you're trying to endo or stop fast?

What i'm trying to say is that it's no harder or easier to learn on, it's just most mature people tend to ride cruisers, would you disagree?

No I agree with what you're saying, it also is going to depend on the style of crotchrocket. Some people find leaning forward uncomfortable and prefer the sitting up style but that's just personal preference. It wouldn't be unreasonable to say that most younger males are stupid and really shouldn't be driving/riding anything that will go faster than 45mph though.

No argument there. 95% of the time when I'm being tailgated, it's usually by a driver who can barely see over the dashboard.
