T.O. compares himself to ... Jesus

It seems as if Terrell Owens never ceases to amaze the sporting world as much off the field as on. The latest controversy concerning the Philadelphia Eagles holdout wide receiver? Comparing himself to Jesus Christ.

Owens, who wants a renegotiation of his seven-year, $49 million deal, which he signed last year, was asked about his contract conflict with the Eagles and told the Miami Herald, "I don't have to worry about what people think of me, whether they hate me or not. People hated on Jesus. They threw stones at him and tried to kill him, so how can I complain or worry about what people think?

"How can you justify hating me after I worked so hard rehabilitating from a broken leg to get back to the Super Bowl to help our team try to win? Really, you've got to look at who the villain really is in this thing."

Owens hasn’t decided whether he will report to training camp on time because of a contract dispute with the Eagles, his agent said Wednesday.

“The odds are 50-50,” Drew Rosenhaus told The Associated Press. “We probably won’t make any determination until the start of camp.”

Owens, who helped the Eagles reach the Super Bowl in his first season in Philadelphia after eight years with San Francisco, fired longtime agent David Joseph in April, hired Rosenhaus and started asking for a new contract just one year into a seven-year deal worth almost $49 million.

The Eagles have said they won’t redo the contract.

“Where we stand is there’s no change in their position,” Rosenhaus said. “In my discussions with them, they’ve maintained their stance. We’re weighing our options.”

Rosenhaus also told the AP on Wednesday that Green Bay receiver Javon Walker, another one of his clients, will be a no-show at training camp next week unless the Packers agree to give the Pro Bowl receiver a big pay raise or trade him.

Rosenhaus said it was unfair to compare the two star receivers’ money disputes.

“Every situation is different and you can never correlate the two scenarios,” he said.

Veteran players are scheduled to report to Eagles camp on Aug. 1, and will participate in their first practice in full pads on Aug. 3 at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Owens set team records with 14 touchdown receptions and seven 100-yard games, and finished with 77 catches for 1,200 yards. He broke his leg and severely sprained his right ankle in Week 15 against Dallas, an injury that sidelined him until the Super Bowl.

Owens defied his doctor’s advice by returning to the starting lineup against New England just 6 1/2 weeks after ankle surgery, and was Philadelphia’s best player on offense. He caught nine passes for 122 yards in the Eagles’ 24-21 loss to the Patriots.

The guy plays one year measly year and decides 7 mil a year isn't enough? Also a very loose comparison to Jesus unlike the title says, I was just hoping the reporter would have asked if Jesus held out on helping people for more money/fame.

We can justify hating someone whose only reason he is in a Super Bowl is because he left a team that won't be going for quite some time. This was his only chance to be in a Super Bowl, and he didn't want to be left out, it wasn't for his team, it was for himself or he wouldn't be holding out for more money. He received a very nice contract and after one year wants more money... make him ride the pine for a few years.

I've never liked the Eagles, and I still don't, but T.O. is a certified piece of shit. I hope he breaks his other leg in preseason, or better yet, in a non-serious motorcycle accident, so the eagles won't have to pay him at all.

In all fairness his contract, like almost all NFL ones, is heavily backended. He recieved a 3 million signing bonus and at any time the Eagles can cut him loose and he'll get nothing.

While I don't like T.O. on the field, as an Athlete in his prime who is top tier it isn't a bad decision to look for a more secure cash up front deal.

The NFC is a joke. The Eagles without T.O. go from a top 5 team to a bottom 10 one, and not ahead of the top 5 in the AFC.

Might want to tell that to the NFL.

The funny thing is, he had a deal already from the 49ers, and could have played under that deal last year, and gotten a new deal THIS year. He was actually advised by the NFLPA to *NOT* sign the new 49 mil deal, that he could get a better deal a year later, and that he would be making a mistake. He went and signed it anyway.

Great talent, and the 49ers don't have any receivers worth a damn, but I'm still glad he's gone. At some point, he went from an incredibly talented receiver, who was only a headache because he wanted to win so badly to someone who didn't give a damn about his team, and wanted to be the Terrell Owens Show.

I hope he does hold out for the year, would serve him right. Hell, I hope he olds out indefinitely and pisses the years of his prime away.

I guess you don't quite get the non-guaranteed contract portion of the NFL, Xao. The player is stuck with his contract, but the team can terminate it at any time. It's not in any regards a fair situation.

T.O. has always been a showboater and poison, Arlos. He was better when he was surrounded by vets early on, but he's gotten worse with age. I wouldn't want him on a team I support.

If the NFL didnt fuck their players on a regular basis they wouldnt have this problem every year.

The NFL needs to insitute rookie set contracts for the first 3 years, then bigger buck guaranteed contracts for the vet that are more incentives laden

I love the new arbitration rules in the NHL CBA.

Both players and teams can go into arbitration for players that are over/under achieving.

Would really help with the Shawn Bradleys of the world.
