Recess appoinhtment. How lame. Sneak him in through the back door at midnight while everyone is asleep. Just another huge strike against his credibility. Arrogant man appointed by an arrogant president.

Regardless of whether or not you like his politics, how he was put into position isn't a question of checks and balances. The ambassador to the UN is the extended voice of the president, not the congress. Foriegn affairs by the executive branch, not the legislative. Clinton made hundreds of recess appointments, mad about that too?

Speaks volumes of the credability of both. I find it amusing that the conservatives think this is so great but I bet if it had been a liberal dem they would all be up in arms about the appointment.

I heard he has no experience but he donated alot of money to Bush's campaign. Not like Bush cares what the country thinks of him, he can't be reelected.

We were, back when Clinton made his recess appointment to the UN.
Not like this is a new thing, recess appointments are standard practice for every president since Nixon at least.

Hell, Eisenhower appointed 3 Justices to the Supreme Court. Can you imagine the uproar if Bush did that?
Recess appointments are nothing new under the sun.

Besides, the UN is a bullshit organization so who cares if Bolton got in?

It's the fucking UN Ambassador. I wouldn't care if Mindia got the appointment.
Recess appointments are part of the system of checks and balances, not an abrogation of it, Brin.

Yea right, its not like it's in the Constitution or anything. Recess appointments have never, ever, ever, been done before, not even by our very first President, Mr. Washington. This is all something Bush is making up on the fly...

Wow... that wins the prize as the singlemost ignorant statement of the day.

Pssst, It's sarcasm, Ugz. Themos one of yours.

Zan, you beat me too it. Since of course recess appointments ARE in the constitution and the precedent WAS set by our first President.
I figured the over use of ever, ever, ever plus the

emote would signify sarcasm...apparently not.

It was a combination of things which prevented me from catching it.
Sorry - my sarcasm radar was switched off... work was distracting me.... Pluto and Neptune were in alignment messing up my spiritual aura... and the Braves are leading their division. It's not my fault... my parents didn't hug me enough... Jesus doesn't talk to me... and I broke the yolk on my eggs this morning.

uh... I have a headache... I just quit smoking... I didn't finish High School... no wait, that's Lumpy's excuse... hmm.... I was in a heated conversation about the plight of the Spotted Owl....
wait... I can think up more excuses...
