Bill Simmons on espn.com wrote:(More importantly, had Vince Carter known last season that he could potentially receive two paychecks for quitting on the Raptors, what would he have been capable of? Would he have just started launching 3s at his own basket? Blocking the shots of his own teammates? Showing up naked for games? Where would the line have been drawn?)

Simmons always hates on the Raptors. He's funny at times but if I take him too seriously I have a habit of yelling at my computer screen.

As for Carter. I've decided to stop hating on him. It was hard for me, it’s time to move on. For a long time I was at that phase in a break-up where you just want your ex to do horrible things and then when they do well you just hate em even more.(the above is stolen directly from the aforementioned Bill Simmons in his article about Walker coming back to Boston) I still think he's great. I still think he's soft. And I still think he's gonna blow out his knee next year. The thing that pisses me off more then anything else about the whole situation is the media. Not just Simmons(although ESPN is #1 on my shit list) but EVERYONE was so quick to anoint Carter as the saviour of NJ, one of the best guards in the east, only AFTER he got traded. Before that it was always doom and gloom with this kid. The American sports media knows about as much about the Raptors as my mother does. And she calls Chris Bosh that dinosaur looking guy cause he has a long neck.

At least in this instance, Simmons wasn't trashing the Raptors: he was mocking Carter, which he's done consistently. He certaintly wasn't annointing Carter the savior of anything. His latest NBA review (from which both of the quotes I posted were cribbed) specifically mentions Carter as a potential problem for New Jersey.

He is one of the few that continued to hate on Carter before and after.
