Hockeypost (World championship)

Does this tournament get any coverage in the US? In sweden the interest is fairly high, especially the last few days after Peter Forsberg joined the team after beeing knocked out from NHL.

Sweden now face the US saturday in the semis after a great performance by the US in the quarterfinals. (Sweden had a crappy game against Lituania in their Quarterfinal).

Personally I think the worldchampionships should be played every fourth year so that the worlds greatest players could represent their country in a epic tournament much like the olympics have become. Having it every year like it is now is bad idea. Most likely the greatest players will still be battling for the stanley cup... Why call it the world championship when most teams are made up of average players that just got knocked out early from the stanley cup? (There are exceptions)

Opinions?

It is a bit much with the worldchampionships every year. Should at the least be every other year. Or like the olympics and Worldcup/Canada Cup every 4th year. Would mean you have 3 big tournaments in 4 years if you make sure to spread them out.

Kicking myself for not watching the game between the Czech and the USA. Thought it would be an easy game for Czech lead by Jaromi Jagr and the team overall the one of the best ever fielded at home with 17000 fans against the US who usually do badly in the worldchampionships .... Was saving myself for the semifinal between Sweden and the Czech republic instead. Doh!

The US should not be able to surprise twice though. Great Swedish team. Michael Nylander, P-J Axelsson and Höglund makes an awesome line. Switch in Daniel Alfredsson or Peter Forsberg for Höglund if you really wanna put some pressure on the opponent. And with the Swedish already defensivly succesful team being bolstered by Niklas Lidström ....

This tournament is only the warm up for the World Cup in the fall though. With a few adjustments the current Swedish team have a good chance to win that. *crosses his thumbs for Peter Forsberg to be able to play* After this tournament he is going in for surgery and will barly have time to be back on the ice in.

outside of the rather limited NHL coverage ya dont get much hockey in the US anymore. need something big and exciting to happen so people can jump on the 'i like hockey' bandwagon for a few days to get good coverage.

kinda ties for greatest sport with Boxing

As far as hockey haters, being "voice of opposition" always been "cool" way to join conversation for people who don't have anything to say on subject but still want to be included into every conversation. Kind of like a kid who jumps around adults table shouting obscenities, while adults try to ignore it, till his dad notices and slaps him

The fact that a professional hockey game can end in a tie instantly invalidates all the fast-paced action and renders hockey hopelessly gay. Sorry.

Relax. All sports that can end in ties suck. That includes football and boxing. I'm lumping it all together, not just singling out hockey.
