Would it be safe to say that Catholics kinda started the whole christianity thing? My religious history isnt all that great, but I cant think of any denominations before the Catholics.

Why would they teach you this? Luther schismed from the Catholic church - he wasn't integral in the development of Catholic doctrine which is what Catechism is supposed to be teaching people.
