router suggestions

While I excel in surfing porn, I'm quite unskilled in computers and I need a router.

I tried a wireless linksys recently and my computer froze and sent me on three hour phone patrol to tech support. The cable company blamed the router, the router company blamed the cable company, and fucking Norton anti-virus put me through 4 menus on the phone and spent my patience after a 20-minute hold I hung up.

It still didn't work so I returned it. My cable company will charge $50 a month to set up a seperate line to my computer from the current one, so I NEED a router.

I'm considering the latest linksys cable router that is physically wired from computer to computer. Is this a safe bet? I think it's around $50 and is a snap to connect. Has anyone used this?

It'es with a tail and horns. Linksys was cast from heaven when it tried to overthrow God, and was sent down to hell. If you can get something other then Linksys I would. They are notoriously bad for being worthless and nothing but trouble.

I work with routers all day long. We have the best results with Linksys as far as home networking goes. Stay away from Belkin and 2Wire.

I do have a Cisco 1720 I can sell ya but it's not cheap.

SMC Barricade is a nice value home wireless solution. I also have a Cisco 803 if you want a real router and not a crappy Linsys\SMC\Belkin piece of junk. The SMC is a lot more user freindly untill you get at least a CCNA :wink:

I pretty much solely use Linksys. I've tried other brands, but I've had best luck with my Linksys.

Your PC freezing up might have nothing to do with your router. Are you running IE, and not using a popup blocker and spyware killer?

I'm using IE, and the wireless worked fine until I sprung for Norton 2005. Then about 4 hours after installation, it kicked me off the internet.

By disabling my firewall, it was no change. I refreshed the internet connection utility and physically rebooted the shit and did everything they told me to on the phone to no avail.
