2005 MLB talk thread

Postby Xaiveir » Wed Dec 15, 2004 6:10 pm

Figured it best to start a new thread, that will continue through the baseball season.

New transactions happening today. After signing David Wells to pitch for the Red Sox, they announce well actually Edgar Renteria reported that he has come to terms in tune of a 4 year 40 million dollar contract.

Mariners have signed Richie Sexson today, terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed. With this signing the Mariners will now turn their sights to sign either Carlos Delgado and/or Adrian Beltre. Beltre would make more sense to sign if they could only get one. Mariners are also still possibly looking for a starting pitcher.

Look for Boston, now that Pedro has signed with the Mets, to heavily pursue Matt Clement. Having a hard throwing right hander to compliment Schilling is what they are looking for.

More to come.

Orioles are trying to acquire some decent starting pitching. They have stated they do not want to sign any free-agents, but want to only trade for pitchers. While I think that is gay, they might be in the running for Tim Hudson. If the O's get the right starting pitching, you better watch out for them in the wild-card race, because Miguel Tejada will be threatening for the AL MVP this upcoming season.

I also hope we resolve our second base problem -- Hairston, or Roberts (I want Hairston, if he stays healthy).

The fucking A's shouldnt trade Hudson. He is there best pitcher. Its bad enough that they let Tejeda go last year. Too bad they just dont have enough money to keep all there free agents.

I grew up and still am a giants fan. But as of late I grow tired of the antics in baseball. I haven't been to a game in 3 years now and really have only bought 2 pieces of merchandise in the past couple years.

I think the Mets need to make a few more moves, especially in the field, as they are just a horrid defense, they will more than liekly though purchase another past prime player that turns out to hurt the team than help it.
The O's will suck as long as they keep paying players like Ponson. But should again have a pretty good offense to bad they are AL East
The A's hopefully wont trade hudson, if they do - 3 or 4 years before they are back "contending " as a small market team.
I think the Mariners have made some good improvments, in the right direction.
The giants, well /shrug atm I think they are about the same place they were last year and I doubt they will get any better.
Boston, the sun shined on the dogs ass - and now they can go back to floundering in the play offs.

I really haven't been paying all that much attention to baseball so this has been things Ijust happened to catch on the news.

A's have no choice but to trade Hudson. They'll most likely lose him at the end of the season due to free agency. If they want something in return, they're better off trading him now and getting a blue chip prospect or two that will help the A's in the years to come. Instead of keeping a decent pitcher for one more year that most likely has already seen his best years.

Just wanted to touch on these statements right here. Im a huge Giants and mariners fan. The Giants have made VAST improvements to their team so far this off season. They added Omar Vizqeul to play short stop, he will be more productive offensive than SS that they have had, he will add speed, but more importantly it will add the best defensive short stop in baseball. That is one HUGE upgrade the giants needed.

They also added Mike Matheny to their catcher position. Another Gold glove, and the wont lack much in the offensive catagory from AJ. They also added Armando Benitez as well. Biggest problem last year for them, was they couldnt close out games. If they had a closer, even if it were for 1 game at the end where they blew a 3 run lead in the ninth with 2 outs to the dodgers, they would have been in the playoffs.

Giants are still in the market for posibly a starting pitcher or right fielder. Some rumors of possibly getting Alou to play right field, and play for his dad have surfaced. But the mets are the front runner for him atm. If they do not pickup an outfielder, Dustin Mohr and Pedro Feliz will split time in right. Both had breakout years last year.

If the Giants cant sign anyone, look for them to go and pick somebody up via a trade. They have ALOT of young arms that are coveted by every MLB team. I dont think the Giants are nearly done this off season.

As for the Mariners, they still have ALOT of work to do to turn around their 99 loss campaign from last year. Delgado, Beltre are both being talked too. Adding Sexson will help, but they still need a starting pitcher, and they still need a 3B. Spezio just wont cut it over there if they are going to contend.

THe A's will trade Hudson within the next 3 days. But they will still contend. They have one of the best farm teams in the country, and always seem to have a fresh set legs and arms ready to go. Lots of talented people in that farm system.

The A's still have Mulder and Zito! Also, Hudson, Mulder, and Zito have been non-existent in the play-offs.

Sir Fatass Ponson better get on a better diet, and pitch like he did two years ago.

Mariners have reportedly signed Adrian Beltre to a 5 year 60 million dollar contract, the day after signing Richie Sexson. As of 2 pm PST, mariners were still in talks with Delgado as well. 1 PM is when Beltre apparetnly agreed to this deal. Middle of that lineup for the Mariners is now a murderers rowe.

As long as Sexson stays healthy.

They still don't have the pitching (why the hell would they trade Freddy Garcia).

Sexson should stay healthy. He was very dependable before tearing his shoulder. Ive had the same injury, and once you have had it fixed it doesnt give you many problems.

As for the Mariners trading Garcia, that was a brilliant move. Freddy has been a head case after he was an All star the first time. He and Carlos Guillen were drinking buddys (hence why he was traded FYI), and has battled alcohol addiction. He was a bad person in the clubhouse.

In return they got Miguel Olivo, one of the best up and coming catchers in the game. He will be an all star here soon, he has a HUGE upside. Moreso than Garcia does now.

As far as their pitcing goes, it is actually looking very good for the mariners. Bullpen is decent, and their starting pitching will be very good next year. Pineiro is back and healthy, Moyer should bounce back and give us 12-15 wins (always gives quality starts), Ryan Franklin gives up alot of homers but led the team in ERA (and he got the lowest run support per game of any pitcher in MLB last year.) Bobby Madrische is going to be solid, he has a great career ahead of him. You also have Clint Negoette who again has a great upside, and Gil Meche (but he might get traded)

Mariners are still looking at a starting pitcher either via trade or FA. If they do wind up getting delgado also, look for them to trade either Ibanez/wynn and Spezio to a club for a decent starting pitcher.

Salary cap please. Fuck you Yankees, you can't win even with a stacked team. I used to like Randy Johnson.

Randy Johnson deal with yankees may have just hit a major snag. Sounds like the deal is going to fall through. They may have to rework it, or get a new 3 rd team in the deal, or maybe a 4th. Rumors of the cardinals being part of this deal now is coming up.

That is their starting 4 , they are not sure who their 5th starter will be. They will not go out and acquire one via free agency or trade. Most likely it will come from their farm system, alot of their season will be riding on how well Blanton and their 5th starter do this year.

I agree with the salary cap issues. There needs to be one implemented into the game.

I also agree with the fuck you Yankees.

The A's just fucking traded Mulder to St Louis for 3 crappy prospects. Could Zito be next? I guess the A's is waiving the white flag for next year. This really suck. Their starting five next year is Zito/Harden/Blanton/?/?.

I just saw this, and couldn't believe it. Maybe the O's will pick up Zito. I hope they don't pick up Sosa like rumors are saying they are. :(

Steve Kline signed a multi year contract with the O's!

Our bullpen is going to be banging this year.

Should be a good bullpen. O's are going to need it, still not a great starting rotation, so that bullpen is going to be overworked. Unfortuanatly i dont think they will contend this year for a playoff spot :(
