What should I play?

Postby KumhoSpearbear » Wed Dec 22, 2004 1:24 pm

Hi there guys,

Well, I'm looking at getting my grubby fingers on WoW. I've spend a fair bit of time looking at the classes in WoW, and I'd like a bit of input from you guys on it, seeing as you actually play :)

I liked the way my shaman was put together (mostly) in EQ, and I thought I played a fairly good shaman, so I want to continue with a class that is most like him in WoW.

I'm leaning towards a druid. Tauren naturally. I really like the "horses for courses" aspect of the shapechanging part, and that they have significant heals available to them. Thats pretty much all I know about them, really.

Anyway, I'd like to know what you guys think of druids, and what they are actually good for ingame. And if any of ya that know me have an idea about what I would be better off playing, that would be good too.

Who knows, you might see my running around someday ;)

I can tell you that Druids are a rare class. And they're probably the closest class to the EQ shaman. The WoW Shaman is almost nothing like the EQ shaman. The Druid is sort of one of those jack of all trade type classes. Especially with this patch, they're pretty versitile. You can go from being a tank, to being a healer to being a rogue. From what I hear, they're one of the more fun classes to play since they have so many options available to them. If you like being a support type class then I think you'd like it.

i would agree with taxx, they are probably the closest to a eq shaman, being versitle most of the other classes are more put into a single role, a shaman in wow can either tank or heal, but aye druids are a rare sight to see most of the time....

The WoW shaman I would compare to a paladin with bard like song'ish abilities (totems)

Along with your spells you are a fucking badass.

my bro plays a shaman

I think it's probably the 2nd strongest all around class in the game, very versatile, and like someone else said, it's kind of like an EQ paladin with some Bard abilities tossed in

really strong solo, and in groups

druids are very rare on my server too (doomhammer)
they're not bad at all, but seem hard to play well (for the idiots i've run into anyways)

a lot like hunter in that they're only as good as the player behind them
most are idiots

I played a warlock through beta, and started a new one on realease, while she was okay, I didn't love her as much as I did in beta. I started a druid, and I LOVE HER. Druids are very versatile, if I feel like soloing, its no problem with my bear form to tank. I can then immediatly shift back to the tauren to heal and back to the bear to fight again, or a rogue if I prefer that approach. The druid is perfect for someone like me who sometimes wants to solo, and sometimes group.

Hunters have the highest population of shitty players of all the classes... followed up closely by rogues.

Hey Kumhoe!

Come play on Whisperwind

The only crazy thing with the druids is changing forms all the time. While you're shape-shifted I don't think you can cast anything. I think I'd go mad changing forms like that all the time.

I played a mage in beta, and it was great and all, but I knew I'd probably end up making a shm at golive. Wow shm is quite different -- very bard-like as everyone has suggested (though not as tedious).

Anyway, there definitely aren't enough druids, so it's hard to go wrong there! See ya around.

Hmm. It sounds really good so far :)
Anyone played one, and can give me a little bit of a run down on their role? I'm wondering if it differs from the one on the Blizzard website as much as the Shaman one did in EQ :P

Thanks for the info guys, i'm looking at an early Jan. start, probably even earlier.

Oh, what server would be best for NZ/Aussie timezone? I'm keen on being with people that I know/ know me.

Groups it depends...

when sole healer... healer of course, and melee if no ae
when secondary, i cast, but not overcast in case main healer goes oom for some reason, and melee/catform if not casting.

when raiding, i'm usually healing due to lack of priests. it was pretty easy for me to keep main tank alive where priest found it easier to keep ae'ing mages alive.

i also debuff in all above instances.

I pretty much melee constantly, like i said only time i dont is when i'm casting a heal, or am in healing role and there is an ae. I'll melee if no ae.
