Obligation to rerun instances: thoughts
How do you all feel on our obligations to rerun instances? This week I felt like I pissed off several people because I didn't want to go back to a few instances for the 6th or 7th time. What are your thoughts on this?

I just wish people wouldn't be so self-serving. Do you know how many times a week I stop what I'm doing to help other people in the guild? Or just run a group through an instance? I've done SFK and WC more times than I can count and I hate WC with a passion.
We're all going to be 60 in a few months, if I never helped anyone, I'd be high 50's right now. What's it going to hurt to set aside ONE DAY to helping the lower people?

I really do not see the big deal. I am one of the lower lvl members and if I can't find a guild group going I do one of two things:
1. Find a pick-up group and pray it doesn't suck
2. Just skip doing the quests that need a group
I know I miss out on some gear and all, but I figure the gear I am going to find in WC will be replaced in a few levels by something better. Is there something I am missing by not doing the instanced quests?

First time I went with a bunch of newbies, I got charmed, lost aggro when charm wore off as he was still chasing down my groupmates. I bandaged up, ate some food, went back into the fray and dropped him.
This was with two warriors and two rogues if memory serves. Our priest dropped out on us halfway through the instance and we were like fuck that, we are still going to finish this.

word
[smiley poster=yawn]In a nutshell...[/smiley]
I don't mind hearing, "I don't want go to."
or
"It's boring."
or
"I'm masturbating."
It simply rubbed me the wrong way when I was told that you didn't want to go because you were done with the zone - that you had no personal gain outside of XP. This was especially annoying when just the previous night, I (at lvl 40 (priest)) replaced a lvl 50 druid who couldn't keep a Maraudon group alive and joined an instance group that was 'above' what could benefit me. I helped you finish YOUR quests - and nothing was mentioned of my own personal gain. The next day, I was told that you weren't going back to Uldaman because you had 'finished' it. Way to look out for yourself.
Taxx and Zanchief are perfect contrasting examples. I would love to know how many times each of them have been through SM in both beta and retail. I promise that they've gone through at least 50 full instances that were both past the point of XP gain and material reward.
And for those that aren't guilded and want to bask in my amazing priestly abilities...
we killed the princess with this group:
49 warlock (skrum)
48 hunter (finalzion)
46 mage (ire)
47 shaman (celsham)
40 shadow-priest (vonkaar)
Celsham tanked, I healed. I'm a fucking God.

This exact question I think highlights the largest design flaw in WoW. By relying so heavily on quests for the exp grind, it naturally causes segregation of the "haves" and "have nots". Cliques naturally form inside of guilds as people gravitate into questing groups at the same stage... you get division and isolation which is dangerous to the health of a guild.
I don't know how to fix it - it's inherent in the design of the game. Maybe once everyone is 60 it won't be an issue since everyone will be pretty much capable of doing whatever... however, till that point there's going to be some hurt feelings along the road.
Now, my take on the question at hand is that NO one has an obligation outside of their own feelings of ownership and responsibility to friends and guildmates to rerun instances. I personally do NOT rerun instances for just anyone... my RL friends and those very close to me in-game is all I do it for. Just because you're a guildmate doesn't mean that I'm required to go kill a metric shitton of grey mobs and let you loot a bunch of gear for yourself.... while in return I get nothing other than some modicum of satisfaction in knowing that I spent an entire evening selflessly letting someone become more l33t in a video game. After once or twice that "glow" wears off and I'm back to "get together with others in the guild who haven't run it and go do it yourself'.
I'm starting to see more and more where people are expecting to be cribbed through content and upgrades so that they can be on an equal footing with those who have invested more time or started earlier in the game. Earn it... don't be a begger. Build a group of people who haven't experienced it yet... haven't done it yet... aren't so high of a level as to trivialize it yet... it's more fun, it more challenging, and above all YOU accomplish it for yourself.
Oh - and quit being whiney bitches if someone tells you "no".

I'm not talking about asking a lvl 60 to 'run me through WC', Ugz.
We are talking about a peer... in an XP-giving instance. There is no 'running me through an instance' here.
I went and spent an evening doing an instance that was 'too high' for me to get any reward, I got no loot... I finished no quests... but they finished their quests and finished their zone np. Now that I'm 'of level' to complete the Maraudon quests, should I even bother asking him to come help me kill the princess? Since I 'ran him through' it the first time?
You see what I'm saying?

No, we got him to 25% but the golems got us.
I think we would have beaten him if we planned it differently. We should have just had avec and I on the adds, and put Mogrim and the Mage on Arch for added dps. Dunno why they thought Avec needed help with adds =/. Mog can't kill arch by himself... not enough dps.

I never said I didn't want to go because I didn't get any reward. I said I was done with Ulduman because I was totally burnt out on the zone. I have been in there at least 9 times to finish everything up/wipe. I am going to officially declare my stance and say if the lower levels would like my assistance with an instance, I will go if you schedule ahead of time on these boards or in game. I have no problem redoing instances, just not right after I have ran it infinity times to finish my stuff and the others who started with me. Its ultimatly self defeating to go back to an instance every time one or two people hit the level range to go because that would keep us in the same zones forever.
Your quasi-exact words were, "It does not benefit me. My quests are done, why would I want to go?" You also said, 5 or 6 times... which was laughable, considering the 20 times I've taken people through SM. Aaaand, this was a couple nights ago, when the zone would still have been decent xp for you.
It all boils down to this: if I had not spent the PREVIOUS night 'wasting' my time helping ya'll in an instance that does not benefit me, being turned down for help might have not upset me so.
And while Tikker is right, I'm hardly a straggler... I may not play 10 hours a day, but the few that I *do* play are quality hours. I'm all skill baby.
