Lyion, here's the MMORPG you wanted I guess

Hardly. I think what I'm looking for is a few years away technology wise. I don't mind somewhat of a treadmill, I just want more depth and breadth.
I'm not happy with static spawns, similar loot tables of stats, and everyone being a lemming, but I guess many are.

One of the big, 4-page preview/interviews on Gamespy says they're not planning on having the monk or druid classes, and there will not be crafting (until they can 'find a system that works')
They plan on adding them "someday" (no guarantees), so maybe "someday" I'll be interested.

Check out their official site some time. I'm sure they have one, but I don't care enough to bother looking anything else up for you~

It was an interesting read, but you can definately tell which side of the fence he was on
I do agree 100% with his take on instances
If EQ had instanced dungeons right off the bat, this game would have been dead in the 1st year
What made the best stories were the races for mobs, and the subsequent rants/flames that followed
ie community is everything
And the WoW community in general kind of sux atm
This is directly from the DDO Website:
What races and character classes can I play? We realize that variety is the spice of life, and we’re committed to bringing over as many of the core races and classes as we can for the initial launch. We’ll have more specific info as we get closer to release.
They might not have Monks, but they are and have always been a part of D&D. I wouldnt trust a gamespy article without a lot of facts and release info, especially for a game thats a long ways off.

Are you sure? I'm fairly certain that the first set of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons books I had in the early 80s had monks.
Time to do some googling.
Edit and Add:
Google Note:
Monks were in the FIRST version of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons back in 1979. They were basically there from the beginning.
Sorry Toss, but you are wrong on this one.

There is no argument, the monk class was there near the start of D&D.
That's the whole point. Yes, the original D&D set didnt, but it was not mainstream released and was out around 1974. AD&D is early D&D. There is little difference. If you count the non Gary Gygax renditions D&D, even though they were derivatives of his work, then we can agree to disagree.
Here's a pretty good history
