Postby Gaazy » Sat Jan 08, 2005 11:28 pm

i cant get in. When I enter world from charactor screen, it goes to the load screen, and the blue bar gets about half way and i crash to desktop every time and a message pops up and says the application has encountered a critical error because of what is says is "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check), a nd it says it happens in the patch file or somethin. Any clue whats goin on?

You need to defrag your hard drive.

standard email from support will tell you to get all updated drivers, re-install the game, and defrag your HD. =\

Sounds like a datafile is corrupted.

You could try just reinstalling hoping that the data is stored wrong.

If that doesn't work, then it could be a bad sector on the harddrive. Delete WoW and run scandisk to have it find bad sectors. Then try reinstalling again.

You might backup the patch files in the WoW root folder, or else you'll have to redownload them after deleteing. Then again, maybe its the patches that are messing it up in the first place, and so you should download them from scratch too.

fuck downloading from torrents.. head to fileshack.com or some other place to download the patches and patch it yourself by running the .exe .. takes 5 min rather then 5 hours :D

Uninstall, defrag, reinstall.

Make sure you have like 3gb free after you reinstall otherwise it will be a bit fucked.

I got the same error a half dozen times before I figured it out.

Sorry to have been so vague.

" "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"

That means your hard drive is dying and will go soon. Check the event viewer if you're in XP or 2000 and I would bet your system log looks like a xmas tree right about now. I would at minimum back up your data and call whomever warranties your machine.

It just means you need to defrag.

He followed my instructions and logged into WoW last night.

Chkdsk /f , reboot and let it run. Defragging your hard drive does not fix corrupted data my friend. :)
