... Skype has a maximum number of 5 people per conference. Teamspeak's maximum is 60, I believe. I used to host LoS' TS server... until I got lazy.
Skype is much laggier but the quality is absolutely flawless. It's almost as if you're in the same room with the person you're "skyping" with.
The other downside to Skype is no "push-to-talk" key. But this is a nonissue since there isn't any interference or anything when people talk over eachother.
TS, while they support a "push-to-talk" key, suffers from the aforementioned interference when people try to talk at the same time.
Run a faster codec on TS and you don't have any garble when more then one person talks. At least I don't.
I run a music channel where I have a laptop playing MP3's around 24/7.
Constant, low volume toons played in the background while everyone talks above it. No garble.
.
Assuming you kick out the idiots who spam all the time it's a timesaver. We used it for all of our raids in Daoc and officer meetings. Once you get over your antisocial behavior you'll like it much better than typing.
Why stop and type out omg, train incoming when you can hit F (or whatever key you use) and speak very fast. To each their own, but I process voice and sound much faster than reading.

You don't have to host anything, just go to http://www.leetservers.com and pay 5.95 a month for a 10 slot. They host it for you and everyone downloads the client.

The voice stuff in EQ wouldn't have been so bad if it were not for those idiots who felt the need to spam. I cant count the number of groups that always seemed to have that 1 person who thought it was funny just to have 1 other person join in and just ruin the group.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.
I,m new but here are my 2 cents anyways.
1. Yes some people are annoying on vent/TS but it is definately easier to explain what happens here to people who have never done a particular instance before, also this leads to speedier runs when people arent sitting and typing.
2. vent and Ts are fairly similiar except that TS allows channel commanders/admins to speak to one another without everyone else hearing. Very beneficial when there are large raid groups and people want a certain group to move to point A etc.
3. Typing sucks
4. Its relatively cheap and I know a few people with there own servers so I could get a pretty big vent or TS for very cheap. else like 60 people vent servers are about 15 bucks, TS is similiar
