New to the game

Postby Mechafox » Sat Jan 29, 2005 12:27 pm

Im new to the game and im not sure what kind of character to play. Im looking for something that can solo fairly well and has a versatile playing style. Any suggestions?

Try a warrior for a while. Being a meat shield will give you some experience in how the game is actually played, as well as make you some friends. Once you have played a warrior/tank for a while, then you will have seen some of the various types of magic on Everquest and then you can make a decision based on what you have learned on your warrior! Most people make a caster within a couple of weeks after playing a warrior, but some never make a caster. I guess it is all in how you want to do it!

Good luck, man..and if you want some more advice, /tell sandirella anytime!

Don't make a pure melee character if you want a decent soloing class.

I'd go with a beastlord if you're just starting up now. It's a good class for solo or for grouping, plus it's not a class that is heavily dependent upon gear like a pure melee class.

monks are the best for training, FD works even at a young age, monk will help you stay alive early on, plus being an iksar will help with that regen, find some friends and learn the right way to gorup and the sucky way to group

Why the fuck are you people even including training into the equation?

My personal opinion would to try out a Druid or Beastlord if you are wanting to solo and it is your first time around.

Try out something easy like warrior or druid first. Chances are you might end up trying a little of everything and naturally you will settle with one. I am most happy with playing a bard. SO much that I've made a bard twink, and have a few bards on other servers as well. They are pretty much a mixture of every class if you think about it.

Yea, but no one likes druids untill they are lvl 70, and unless you have no life, getting to 70 takes years (from 1 at least).

Only for people who have no life and can afford to sit at their computers for over 12 hours a day. Lots of people like me take pride in leveling slowly. We met more people through the process and got to enjoy more of the game and not just the high end part. Now that I do pretty well in game, I am sort of proud of my acheivements, even if it took since 1999 to get them.

I took forever to level the first time around, but I also stopped at level 52 to rob a few of my naggy raids etc...

i would suggest trying out a necromancer... we are the gods of soloing and we can fit into a group quite well... once u get into the higher levels you will be able to rez players ( at a cost unfortunately) and also provide mana to others on the fly... necros have the highest mana regen in the game period and we also have the longest lasting levitation spell and highest poison resist spell. if you want pure power over all things necros are the way to go =)
