Thinking about starting a character

on some random server....

anyone wanna set up a weekly group?

Can't really think of what night I will be able to guarantee I will be on, but even just once every other week as long as it's someone to group with.

Yes, I know this is the EQ1 section.

You know it's not a bad idea. But, why not add to it? Instead of starting a weekly group and everyone going right for the gold, how about doing everything "old school?" And, by that I mean going to the good old zones and working toward shit that was hot back in the day? Of course you can't relive that which has already passed, but what the hell? It might be a blast getting together with some old NT folks and starting back at 1 - hitting guk - hitting paw - hitting all the places no one goes to anymore (well those places that haven't been upgraded yet).

paw and mm were both revamped a little over a month ago. oh and look out for lavastorm...far end of the zone had some not so friendly folks.

just play that winter's roar thing. the zones connect differently and it uses a custom weapon/armor deal and some new spells and tweaked mechanics and only utilize zones up to luclin for the most part... believe most people hang out in velious but i haven't played it much.

so far so good... new zone names for some things, new items (lots better than original eq newb stuff...), new NPCs and mobs and the zones all connect differently. you even have to take the boats to get places save for a translocator system that goes to a couple major cities and costs a fee...

also added in some kind of fighting style thing that depending on the style you fight in it has different bonuses... aggressive mode gives you small haste but lowers your defense and you take more damage. it's like classic EQ with new twists and surprises

I made an iksar necro on ayonae ro last night.

Playing EQ in an environment where you can't twink yourself in any way is my favorite method of play.

The only equipment you have is that which you can earn for yourself <3 That being said, I'm level 5.5 with nearly full stitched burlap, an iron gloomingdeep dagger and my level 4 pet spell :D

It is insanely fun in comparison to suckass EQlive.

I started on Winter's Roar.. content is extremely thin in Greenmist Forest~ aka Feerrott.. that's one con.. I doubt it's like this for other starting areas though

of course it has some issues due it being run for free by random people, but it doens't have many in comparison to other emulated servers and there are at least people on this one...

the only major con i ran into is having a shark kill me through the dock whilst i was waiting for the boat.

Level 8 Iksar Necro. Freaking level 8 pet spell is 4.5 plat....

Gonna have to farm up some plague rat tails, methinks.

Cons from my point of view, some aren't really cons:

Mobs are more difficult (but experience is 30-35% more anyways, so it balances. No more level 5's fighting 4-5 mobs at once with ease. (it scales upwards)

You will have to relearn zone connections, Unrest(Shrouded Isle) is on Odus etc.

No one to group with in the early levels (except for those of us playing) Gagluk my brother, Me, Drem, Adivina when I fix hers, Kainne now etc.

And fear "does not work as it should" in certain zones (they are recoding the pathing system in these zones) So fear kiting is out of the question here and there, but again you don't NEED to fear kite.

That's about it though. The server is almost always up (been playing for about a week and it's only gone down for a patch once and wasn't very long)

If you want to play EQ again I highly recommend this server.

The people are extremely friendly and helpful. It's at the very least, twice as fun as EQlive with the custom content and revamped zones.
