March Madness

Postby Phlegm » Mon Mar 14, 2005 9:02 pm

Well the craziness has descent upon us once again. Anyone here follow college basketball at all? I am only a casual observer. So who is the favorite to win it all? North Carolina? Illinois? Duke? A lot of sport shows said that Syracuse is the best playing team right now. I am , however, is rooting for Gonzaga to win it all. Fuck all the power conferences' teams.

I love March Madness. It's everything the NBA isn't. Passion, class, heart, small towns and large towns, as well as the best Basketball in the world.

HAHAHAHA

Yea all the best players go to college.

I like NCAA basketball, it's like a sports sugar binge that I don't mind taking a few days off work to enjoy, but it's not the best basketball in the world.

I'll be watching Niagara till they lose, then prob UCONN, not sure yet.

I never said it had the best players, Zan. Just the best Basketball.

Pro Basketball loses something and the players don't have the same hunger and passion the guys in the NCAA game do. March Madness has players on limited schedules playing for pride and love of the game. NBA just doesn't have that. The only thing akin to March Madness on the pro level is the NHL playoffs.

Its not just Basketball. I've seen much, much better UF/FSU football games than NFL Pro ones.

I am rooting for Niagra as well, my father went there and he led me to them. Sadly they are playing OU first round.

IMO Louisville has the easiest bracket / run to the final four. They got shafted with the #4 seed but it will work to their advantage.

Also look for Illinois to get beat by Arizona/OSU.

I got Arizona, Louisville, North Carolina, Kentucky (only because I'm a fan) in the final 4.

Washington Huskies look pretty good. Sleeper this year might be pacific though. 8th seed i think, but they could make some noise if they get past the first round or two.

I go to the University of Illinois; so you know who I want to win =p. I see the path to the elite 8 as almost a sure thing, but Arizona or OSU would be a tough fight in that round (preferably Arizona as they don't match up well with Illinois). If the three guards pick up their shooting like they did earlier in the year and Augustine/Powell continue to be very consistent on offense and defense, no one will stop them.

I think Pittsburgh has a decent chance of upsetting Washington early on. I also see Kentucky (young) and Kansas (inconsistent) getting taken down fairly early. Duke has a nice bracket for teams they match up well with. On the other hand, they are just some foul trouble away from an elimination, and Syracuse has a good chance of taking them out. I could see UCONN making a nice run at full strength. I picked Texas Tech and Iowa as sleepers to get to the S16.

NC i think will win.. unless the Illini backcourt starts to shoot better. Atm May is the only REALLY good post player in the tourney on a big name team.

i am just rooting for a few teams... Duke cause of Demarcus, NC cause May is the man (imo), the local teams such as Pacific.

Louisville is the best 4 seed of the tournament and easily the best team in their bracket. Pitino will have his guys fired up.

Argh, my Kansas and Textech predictions were right at least. Kentucky should get by Cincinnati today, and i don't think Nevada has even close to the guard play a team will need to take out Illinois. Good tournament so far

Oklahoma just lost to Utah. Bogut is really gonna be amazing in the NBA. He reminds me of Dirk with more defense and post presence. A couple years in the NBA and he will be a top star. Anyways I had Illinois, Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Syracuse as my final four. I got fucked as well.

I'm a little worried about the UK/Cincy game. UK has a bad habit of getting outrebounded every freakin game. If their defense steps up (Rondo is the man) UK should be ok

GO BIG BLUE

Damn, last night was the most entertaining basketball I've ever seen. Illinois was down 14 with 4 minutes to go and 9 with 1.5 minutes to go. Deron Williams is going to make some NBA team very happy.
