On the lighter side this is pretty funny:

Full Court Press

Gov. Jeb Bush said today his social services agency may step in to have her feeding tube reinstated. In an extraordinary move, Bush said the Department of Children and Families has filed a legal motion alleging "30 detailed allegations of abuse, neglect or exploitation" that have occurred during Schiavo's stay at a Pinellas Park hospice.

His legal options quickly running out, Florida Governor Jeb Bush today asked a state court to classify Terri Schiavo as "abandoned property," allowing the state to seize control of the brain-damaged woman under the law of eminent domain. Lawyers called the maneuver "unusual."

Bush Requests Condemnation Hearing on Schiavo
March 24, 2005

Rebuffed in his previous attempts to gain control of Terri Schiavo, Governor Bush today asked the Florida Supreme Court to define the brain-damaged patient as a "dangerous animal," giving Pinellas County animal control officers the right to take her into protective custody. Legal analysts called the move "a cheap political stunt."

Bush Wants Schiavo Taken to Rescue Shelter
March 25, 2005

In a last-ditch bid to save Terri Schiavo, lawyers for Governor Jeb Bush today asked the U.S. Supreme Court to declare the brain-damaged woman a "regulated public utility," saying this would authorize the Florida Power Commission to order the restoration of vital services, such as her feeding tube. Constitutional scholars called the petition "a outrageous abuse of the American legal system."

Fla. Gov Ask Supremes for Control of Schiavo
March 26, 2005

Three days after the death of Terri Schiavo, Florida Governor Jeb Bush asked the International Court of Justice at The Hague to declare the brain-damaged woman the "New Messiah," claiming the move would clear the way for Schiavo's resurrection and thousand-year reign on earth. Mental health experts said Bush "appears to be having a psychotic episode."

If Bush is so concerned with saving lives - then why isn't he doing something about the droves of people who die every year because they can't afford the medical treatment they need?

Well, if you want to look at it like this, Tuggan, it may help.

Terri Schiavo was chosen for death by God and man kept her (or at least her body) alive.

Aborted babies were chosen for life by God and man killed them.

Or at least that's one way to look at it....

Isn't God in all things already?

Anyway, it was an attempt at explaining some peoples view of this to Tuggan.

I consider Bush to have the word of God. He's like the American Pope so to speak.

If he says this girl needs to live, then it's like God himself is saying this girl needs to live.

Bush is a good man.

Even if you could physically regrow the missing brain tissue, how do you replace the missing person? Every memory, every scrap of personality, everything that made her Terry is gone, lost with the brain cells that held everything she was. Why not take the money and effort that would be needed to regrow her missing brain cells (which wouldn't bring 'Terry' back anyhow) and use it to work on the cure for some disease.

So people who suffer from amnesia should die?

Amnesia is not even remotely the same thing, and the disconnection between the two concepts is so radical, I cannot even comprehend how you could fail to distinguish it. Assuming, of course, that you're not just spouting off crap you know is wrong just to start shit.

Lets compare the 2 cases, shall we?

Case 1: EEG, the electrical activity of the brain, is ZERO, beyond lizard-brain control of autonimous systems. CT-scans show that most of the brain matter, the nerve cells that made up the brain, are GONE, ie, non-existant any more, and the cavity where they were has filled up with spinal fluid. You honestly think that if someone opened your skull and removed more than half of your brain and threw it in the trash, that you could get that restored by "Stem cell research"???

Case 2: Someone has a severe mental shock, has a nervous breakdown, and has a psychological block preventing them from remembering the trauma, or anything else. No physical damage, or very minor physical damage, if memory loss was caused by a concussion, say.

Now, you're trying to say that those 2 cases are even REMOTELY similar? Thank you, I needed my morning laugh.

So people who suffer from amnesia should die?

Well, that's a stupid question that has nothing to do with my argument, if I ever saw one.

The point being I'm not arguing she should die because she has brain damage, I'm arguing people should allow her to die because that was her decision. It's religious morons who have no respect for her wishes who want her to be kept alive like some zombie against her wishes. She doesn't have amnesia, she's missing most of her brain. Amnesia you can get better from; losing your brain, not so much. Although it does apparently qualify you to become a conservative fundamentalist in the USA and file lawsuits.

The funny thing is Bush signed a law in 1999 in Texas that allows hospitals to kick people off life support if they can get a judge to agree treatment is futile, even over the family's wishes. Times change, don't they?

What do you think happens when we die? Nothingness?

Seriously, wondering....
