Classes

Postby Adivina » Tue Mar 29, 2005 6:29 pm

I just picked up EQ2. Does anyone have any suggestions on classes I should stay away from because they are incapable of making it on their own. I am not sure what I want to be honestly, I am swaying between wizard/warlock, conjurer, monk, or whatever the hell the rogue is called. HELPS!!

I am leaning towards conjurer right now. Any reason I should not? Will I be able to find groups easily?

My 2cp

Conjuror = no-no

Wizard/Warlock = do some evil damage since they upgraded their spells....still a cloth caster tho

Swashbuckler/Brigand (rogue) = damage dealers, some issues with duel wield atm tho

Monk = do decent damage, no real defined role tho

All the healing classes seem to be pretty good.

Guardian (played properly) is the aggro holder. Paladins have a real rough time holding aggro but can still tank fairly well.

IMO nothing beats a Troubador in this game. They are versatile and all around fun. I almost always play paladins so that's my normal frame of mind.

Why no no for the conjurer?

After further discussions today, we've decided to hold back the priest revamp until Live Update #7. The reason is that LU7 will contain significant balance changes which could necessitate further healing tweaks. Rather than introduce a new system and possibly change it again two weeks later, we'd rather roll it out all at once.

While this is still subject to change, plans for LU7 include:

Priest healing/DPS improvements
Conjurer/Necromancer pet/DPS improvements
Illusionist/Coercer DPS improvements
Changes to the effectiveness of skill buffs like Defense
And as I mentioned, this will allow us to work on healing aggro and taunt as well.

Sorry for getting your hopes up for priest changes making Live Update #6, but I think it's worth the wait to ensure a more stable game all around.

Best advice I can give you, seriously, just think about what youd like to be image-wise and go from there. There is constant class balancing going on with every patch. If a class is weak, they will get boosted, too powerful nerfed.

All classes can solo, some better than others.

I levelled up 3 characters past 20 before I settled on Troubador. I lost count of all the ones that got deleted around 10ish or never made it off Newbie Island.

If you don't like your first choice it's fairly easy to get to 20. I could probably do it in about 3 days of casual play now. The key is to do the quests in Qeynos or Freeport and the starter towns. You get a lot of xp, items, coin, food and the learn your way around with those.

Bottom line, mess around with several different types and styles until you find one that suits you. :)

if you want dps, go brigand. No one has been remotely close to touching my damage. I out-dps anyone 3k wise. On normal fights.

Even warlock / wizard / assasin cant dent me.. and they are the suposed to be top dps class.

I do 9k atm on normal fights, over 30k on named. raid 100+

My brigand is pimped out though, top end gear. No app spells.. 12 adept 3's. Pristine ebon wpns.

The problem is the classes are still undergoing wild gyrations, Advina.

After the next big update some of the gimp classes may be good, and some of the good classes may be gimp. Play what appeals to you, and ignore the 'uber' chat.

You can always ask us 'veterans' any specific questions you have. :)

Its not really specific questions at this point I guess, I am just stuck between two classes that I like the looks of and am not really sure how I should pick. ;)

Ok...wizards recently got a big boost to their spells, so that may not be the most current information.

Also, remember that you do not have to make a final decision as to what class until 18-19.

Well...the summoner classes are scheduled for some lovin soon. I'm not sure what improvements they have in mind, tho.

What city are you starting in?

Qeynos

I'm not really fond of being good, but Aryylas wanted to be good and I enjoy being able to just relax and play a game with him at the end of the day. Its an easy way for me to unwind, just like laying down and watching tv with him is nice after a hectic shift at work.

I think I may just go with being a summoner. I played the warlock class in WoW when it was broken, and I still had a hell of a good time, so I think I will just go with what I think I will enjoy. If it is really horrid I can always reroll.

Qeynos is prettier to look at anyway. :)

Yeah, go with what you'll enjoy. You get more out of the game that way and won't get burnt out as fast.

Freeport 4 lyf...In the process of betraying my second Qeynosian to Freeport, a Highelf this time.

And seriously, I see you falling into the trap. Warlocks might have a slight edge over wizards, they might not. Wizards still kick ass. They were both gimped a month ago. Dev team working hard on game mechanics and balance, they arent afraid to change shit. So go with what you want to look like, cause if its weak now chances are it will be fixed soon.

And by 'weak' I mean, no class is gimped like some were in EQ1. People consider SKs to be weak, but they still tank perfectly well for groups.
