If you lived on a 7gig for this long, just pick up a cheap ass 40gig.

Or get one of these beasts.

or if you only want to have to spend $50 or something dollars, downsize the rpm on the harddrive and cost will go down accordingly

Silvestra probably has IDE drives, not SCSI, I dont reccommend SCSI drives to people that are not familiar with it, mainily because you need to have a scsi controller with the hard drive as well, which causes you to lose a valuable PCI slot, not to mention the pain and suffering needed for a true computer novice to get it in and working.

Stick with a 40gb drive or up to 100gb. It might be best to buy the same brand as your 7gb so you can slave the 40gb to it. Slaving it would probably take all of 30 seconds (if you know what you are doing) to about 15 minutes. After you have installed it, you just cut and copy the files from your 7gb to your 40gb and continue to use your 7gb as a system drive (holds windows, program files, IE explorer, etc), you can then add your porn to the 40gb and digital pics and still have around 34gb for extra stuff: Like Hard core porn and EQ.

When I install new hard drives I set the jumpers to cable select, you can hard code them in the jumper settings (read the documentation), this is why I reccommend getting a 40gb or up to 100 gb HD from the same manufacturer as your 7gb because the jumper placements will be the same for each hard drive. In otherwords: you lack the documentation for the 7gb drive, therefore you will make that one (since it is your start up drive) the master drive, by reading the documentation you will know where to put the jumpers to insure that it is considered the master. Then you set the new drive to slave, slap the power cord on it and the ide cable, and then you are good to go.

Using this method, you wont have to reinstall your operating system, or save your settings on a seperate 3.5 inch floppy or zip drive and then try to reinstall it. Since your original disk is unchanged, all you have to do is format the drive and you are done. Oh, and run fdisk, but new hard drives these days have CDs for installing them (as opposed to running fdisk), so it wont be a big deal.

Any questions?
