I would be forever in your debt... this is a maricle wep for farming faction in ds( have 4 armor pieces ready for turn in). If your interested in letting go of 1 it would make my year. Have searched for one of these for ages.

46~ damage is no where close to the 248 you get on earthshaker

Would need SUBSTANTIALLY more mobs then you would with earthshaker to get anywhere near the same damage. Also the delay on the Hammer (Blued Two Handed Hammer I assume, yes?) would cause it not to proc as often as the earthshaker does.

You do know that proc is independant of weapon delay?

regardless, if you can't find an earthshaker, or are unwilling to mortage the house to purchase one, the blued 2 handed hammer is a viable option~

Yes Tikker if i do not end my pursuit for an earthshaker with one i will do the blued hammer quest instead although not as glamourous it will have to do.

They changed how procs work in the last year?

If so, please educate me as to how they've changed (not sarcasm)

Otherwise, they were always a function of time (ie x# of procs per minute) set on a per weapon basis (although most had the same proc rate)

Proc rate is based off of procs pre second not swings pre proc.

You will proc just as many times in an hour with a 20 dly wep and you will with a 50dly wep.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

You are correct. They are a function of time, but that's only one side of the coin.

If you have 305 dex and fully hasted you will proc on average, 2 times a minute. If you have a 20 dly weapon, you will swing 60 times in 1 minute. if you are going to proc 2 times a minute off of 60 swings, the game calculates that you have roughly a 3% chance to proc per swing.

If your delay is 70, you will swing roughly 8 times per minute (with no haste). So to get the same number of procs, your adjusted chance to proc is roughly 25% per swing.

Now, slow yourself by 60%. (again no haste or haste item) your adjusted delay is now over 100. Less then 6 swings per minute. You see where this is going?

Now take rampage (the only way you can use an earthshaker to AE). That forces a swing against every mob in range (double, triple and flurry can trigger as well, so at LEAST one swing per mob).

If you make one swing at every mob instantaneously and you have a 30-50% chance to proc per swing, the over time factor does not come into play.

http://www.thesteelwarrior.org/forum/sh ... shakerpage

For another example (and a better explanation by far)

That's a VERY specialized circumstance, and not a good example of how proc's work

It is however, a very good example of how you can exploit the mechanism behind forcing a proc =P

ps, dex and haste don't affect proc rate, nor does being slowed

You're still going to get the exact same number of proc's over time

What you're doing by slowing yourself is artificially adjusting the proc per swing ratio (while the proc/min ratio remains identical)

what I'm getting at is that you're trying to compare forcing a weapon to proc at a specific time, with the mechanism of proc:time

apples and oranges

If you're just faction farming, and have other AE folks with you, the hammer works well enough (since all you care about is tagging each mob once)

If you're looking to PL a non casting class, the hammer is actually superior, since it procs at a much lower lvl than the earthshaker

Right, but if you are doing what Olld is wanting (Solo faction farming) then the delay of the weapon (artificially forcing a proc mechanism to trigger) is the most important thing. Blued would need roughly 4-5 times as many mobs (that many more procs) to equal the damage of a shaker.

This VERY specialized circumstance is exactly what Olld is looking for. If you pull that large of a group of mobs you'd better be able to kill em in one shot. Rampage is the only way to go.

The numerous parses at the rangers glade beg to differ :D About Dex that is, I shouldn't have said "and fully hasted" because you are right, that is irrelavent, however dex does increase the number of procs you do in a minute, so does Weapon Affinity.
