Mainly because I believe everything I read, so I go from the bible to popular science... it is very confusing but makes it fun to argue with people

Not here with the behavior we have on every thread, and the silliness, sorry.

I'd be glad to chat about my beliefs and my shift from Catholic to Agnostic and back again, but not with the silliness we have regarding anything personal here.

i guess what I'm wondering, for those that believe in God, is have you had a personal experience with God?

or is it because you were raised to believe God existed, and is the answer to all of life's mysteries

or some combination of the above?

I was raised going to church on sundays, but as I grew older, the answer to all questions seemed to be "cause God said so"

having no personal experience with God, i moved to something that gave me tangible results/answers

science

while not perfect, or with complete answers, it seems a heck of a lot more plausible than a mythical figure head who hasn't put in an appearance in quite a while

I'm more of a pragmatist now than when I was younger. I no longer believe in a higher being.

Don't blame the direction of your life on God. You are where you're at for the decisions you've made for yourself. God helps those who help themselves. Get off your duff and make something of yourself. College is your friend.

It has nothing to do with the direction of my life at all.

I have my reasons, none of which will be posted here. God hates me for whatever reason, maybe I raped babies in a past life :dunno:

In-fact I am happy with my direction in life completely.

It was mostly a joke, but I sometimes wonder if I mean it.

You are wrong. Stop being so damned pathetic. Some people like Tikker and Rust are underachievers due to their mental capacity. But you have the ability to rise above your pipe dreams and laziness. Go to college, and get a degree. Start now.

I was not raised to believe in God - just the opposite actually. One side was more focused on the whole Mother Nature thing. The other was atheist.
Everything that has happened to me in my life that has lead me to where I am now, I would call "personal experiences." It just depends on how you look at it.

Man, my Irony Meter *totally* pegged on this one. What university did Rev. Dingleberry attend, and what degrees did *he* earn?

Look, Blinky, the idea of 'supporting your argument with references' may be foreign to you, I understand that, but just try to figure it out, ok? For example, Mark Isaak's page on Flood stories from around the world is something he's worked on for years - I've known him since around 1992, it's a solid resource. Why shouldn't I cite it? Just because you're allergic to learning doesn't mean everyone else is, ok?

I mean, you're the LAST person who should be commenting on other people's education... since you never got one to speak of.

For that matter, you can't even hold a real job, never mind insecurities.

I was raised in a few different homes, my family was split between Prodistant, Catholic and Jewish beleifs. More often then not I was in the home of the prodistants. They were very strong beleivers in religion. I went to Sunday school on Sunday mornings followed by church on sunday afternoon. We attended every church event.

The problem I ran into was I was a curious child. I asked alot of questions. If something didn't add up I questioned it. I didn't take answers like "It was Gods will" or "The bible says so" as answers. I wanted more solid ground to stand on. Eventually I saw that the church really didn't have any good solid answers for my questions and I turned to science. In science I have seen solid information to back up claims and answers to questions that I have had.

I am a strong beleive in things like Evolution and the Big Bang theory. I see alot of facts and research to back them up. I just dont see anything to back up religious arguments other then Gods will or The Bible.
