I've got an old compaq P1 233, with about 190ish mb ram, and a 10gb hdd

Previously, I had a really minimal mandrake 10.1 install on it, and it worked fine

but then I decided I wanted to install a couple other things, and turns out I didn't have enough packages installed, yada yada yada

In trying to get the components added in, I ended up breaking the install, so I need to start over


So what I'm looking for is some sort of linux OS that'll run on that old shitty hardware, that'll support a ventrilo server, as well as a cacti server, and a webpage/php forum



oh, cacti is an evolution of MRTG, and uses rrdtool instead of flatfiles

so if any of the geeks are interested in a potentially fun project, come build a network monitor tool with me omg

apache/mysql/PHP is easy as pie to get working on anything.

Just a suggestion if this box is solely a server. Don't bother installing Gnome or KDE on it, and really consider if you want to run X at all.

I run Fedora Core on my server at home, and it's pretty good, and fairly easy. SUSE is even easier out of the box. I've heard people complain about Mandrake when running server apps, so if you're on broadband you might want to consider downloading and trying FC or Suse.

Once it's configured, I'll SSH into it, and that's about it

Slackware all the way on this. Install is a piece of cake. Completely customizable install to include as little or as much as you want including no GUI. Boots to console by default. Next to gentoo its probably the most customizable distro out there.

All configs needs to be modified by hand, there really are no config tools for much. But for what your looking for it seems perfect.
