That's your stance?

Nobody can explain Copperfield walking straight through the thickest section of the Great Wall of China; he's a wizard.

Nah, if he was a wizard, he'd bounce off the wall 3 times because his spells got resisted.

So science is the be-all and end-all of everything?

Explain to me the scientific reason a jewelry box complete with doily would float across a room and settle on the pillow on the bed. Or why a wall would knock in three measured bangs every 10 years precisely. Or why cupboard doors would slam open and shut in a kitchen with no one in the room.

Just because you have never experienced something like that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Holmes and Watson were on a camping trip away from the hustle and bustle of 221 B. Baker Street. During the night, Holmes awoke and nudged Watson to consciousness.

"Watson" said Holmes "when you look up at the stars above us right now what do you think of? What are they saying to you?"

Watson pondered this question for a moment and gazed into the heavens above.

"Well you know Holmes, I've always fancied myself to be a bit of a religious man, and what the stars tell me is there there is a God out there who created this display we now enjoy, and that if he took the time to lay out each and every star in such a precise place, then he definately would have cared enough to make man the way he did. Therefore I feel honored by looking at these stars, knowing that my place in life has meaning. What do they mean to you, Holmes?"

"It means, dear Watson, that someone has stolen our tent."

I truely believe that nothing in this world is impossible. It might not be possible yet, but nothing is impossible.

So whether or not you can prove there are ghosts, it's like trying to prove or disprove the existance of God.

Science cannot prove everything and there are alot of things that have been proven in science in the past that have disproved later.

So take it as you see it.

I don't have to give you an explanation. I'm not the one 'giving up' here. You see something that you can't explain and immediately lump it into a JuJu the Sun God explanation. All I'm saying is, stop jumping at shadows just because you don't understand the nature of light. If in 20 years someone comes up with a bulletproof, trial-and-error proven, 100% complete explanation of your Spooky McCrazy phenomenon, you'll feel really silly for calling the Earth flat.

Kahar, what sort of paranormal things have you encountered?

Want to apologize for not replying sooner. As Martrae can attest to I rarely get on the forums during the weekend. As for the post she had told me to come take a look at it.

As for what I have seen...well lets see I have visited about 100 haunted sites in my time. From the mundane (Kay Terrace Estate in Conyers, GA) to the not so mundane (Gettysburg Battlefield). Im sure alot of you have called people like me a 'nut job' or a Bullshit artist however, paranormal activities do exsists. Alot of what I have seen is physical object being moved in a room or destroyed.

One such was in New Haven, CT.I saw what happened to a wicker chair seat for all intents and purposes explode. The wicker chairs weaving unwraped and stood straight up as if someone took a fist the size of a large ham and smacked it thru the center point. The Wicker chair was fine up until me and my friend left the room. We were gone only for 2 minutes while we explored the rest of the house. The house's temperature dropped to the point we could see out breath. The temperature drop was in almost instant. This house has been labeled as a 'haunted house' by alot of paranormal investigators. To this date I believe the house is still stands and is occupied.

I have seen chairs slide accross the floor, Mirrors crack for no reason, gheists (apparitions), and changes in atmosphere(fog that was not there when we arrived on site, temperature spikes, Ground muddy even though the weather was dry for over two weeks, etc)I have also heard whisperings and screams in places.

I am not saying I am professional, far from it I do this for entertainement and as a hobby or rather used to (hard to say "Come on kids lets go look at this abandoned house and watch weird shit happen").

For every 4 haunted houses I goto 1 or 2 turns out to be a fake. But there are a few I have seen that cant be disproved even by scientists.

Now to explain my theory as to why a house becomes haunted. It is not a spirit persay if it were the spirit in my opinion would go about its daily tasks, work school etc and the said spirit would haunt more than one area. The residual theory is that when someone dies there are reprecusions similar to throwing a stone into the middle of a pond, ripples go out from the source (epicenter of the death) and flow outwards. The further out from the epicenter the less the residual effects. This is why places like alot of the Jewish concentration camps are considered haunted. Also places like Vlad (Tepes) Castle in
Romania is said to be haunted to this day, even though the atrocities there ended around 1475 (for those of you who have not guessed or are a little rusty on history, Vlad the Impaler was also known as Count Tepes). Scientists have yet to disprove the castle remains as haunted. Too many scientists have gone there to study the ruins only to see and hear things that can only be explained as paranormal.

And you are assuming too much, Vonk. You assume that I immediately jump to the first conclusion that jumps to mind. You also assume that I have 'given up'.

You have closed your mind to other possibilities because you think they are foolish. Just as medicine closed it's mind to using leeches and other home remedies and dismissed using them in favor or more 'scientific' methods. They are now readjusting their thinking and seeing that these things are actually wiser to use in certain situations.

Let me get this straight... you watched, with your own eyes, a jewelry box, complete with doily, float across the room and settle itself on a pillow and you were not sleeping, in a dreamlike state or on mushrooms/peyote etc? I call bullshit.

So, someone recorded the "knock" on the wall and catalogued the precise second the knock occurred and then waited by the wall for exactly 10 years for the noise to repeat itself and recorded those results as well?

Why don't the cupboard doors open and slam shut while someone is in the room recording? I'd shut my trap if you could show me a room in a house ANYWHERE in the world where you can consistently witness, record, document etc the repeated opening and slamming of cupboards, floating objects, booming "GET OUT"!!! voices from the ether, blood pouring from elevator doors, corpses rising from the grave, etc. The fact is, you can't because it NEVER happens in reality. It's all hearsay and based off of eye witness accounts and not actual, consistent, verifiable data.

I made no such assumptions. My point remains - calling anything the work of the boogie-man or JuJu the Sun God or Quetzalcoatl or Ghosts **IS** giving up. You are trying to prove something unexplained by refering to that which CANNOT be proven. I could make a similar claim by saying that lottery winners are chosen by extra-dimensional leprechauns. I can't prove their existence, so why would I try to explain particular events by referencing them? Show me a ghost flipping your jewelry box and I'll show you my 7th dimensional Irishmen.

If history is any lesson, I can wager that the currently unexplained has a better chance of being proven scientifically SOME DAY than by some sudden revelation from the undead. These spooky occurances are just as mind-boggling to OUR generation as the solar eclipses were to past generations. If you can't explain it, don't jump on the ghost excuse. That's giving up.

Why should I try and prove anything to you, Toss? Your mind is as closed to possibilities as Vonk's.

You've got it backwards, Vonk. I'm not dismissing ghosts or JuJu or anything else out of hand, simply because I have no proof either way. You seem to think that speaking slightingly to anyone that doesn't immediately jump on the 'no such thing as ghosts' bandwagon will make your case for you. Anyone that isn't worshipping science is a buffoon and will feel foolish in a few years.

I'm saying the possibility exists and so I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

ahh yes the ostrich syndrome..if vonkaar and Tossica cant explain it stick your head in the sand till some scientist can. So to give up and say it is not ghosts is your mantra? Sorry but if you would actually spend some time exploring some of the unexplained maybe I would actually take you seriously. Perhaps try to do some physical research into this. But I doubt you have or will. It is easier to stand on the sidelines and deny this or that. Perhaps if you were to explore some of these houses as I have maybe you will see things my way.
And no I am not calling anything I see as the boogie man or Ghosts. I just believe in things a bit differently. I believe that science does not explain everything. Nor will it. Whether you believe in ghosts or not and untill science proves me otherwise I will believe in what I believe and what I have seen. Yes Toss, I have seen things get slung across the room. Im sure you will rack it up to bad gas or something. However till you see it or actually visit some of these places it is easier to naysay aint it?

If you cant explain it dont jump to the 'it just has not been proven by science. That is giving up

Wrong.

My mind is completely open to ANY possibilities as long as they don't involve Casper and his crew. That's the difference. I am willing to entertain any theory that someone can suggest to explain the phenom as long as they don't resort to throwing their hands up and saying "Must be ghosts"!

Believe me...

I've been completely fascinated by the paranormal for almost my entire 35 years on the planet. I would love it if things like ghosts really did exist but sadly, they don't. I'm not saying I haven't witnessed things that I can't explain, I have. I just choose to assume it's something "normal" that appears "paranormal" until someone comes up with a scientific explanation that seems feasible.

Kahar,

I'm not asking for much. I just want one shred of physical evidence. Just one. Something that is undeniably an earthly influence by the spirit of a person that onced lived. That's all it would take to make me believe. Put me in a room somewhere and have a ghost materialize to me or have an item pick up off a shelf and float across the room, etc. Someone telling me they think they might have seen something odd or leaving a room and then going back in to find the room isn't how you think you remember it or thinking you might have heard a creepy, unexplainable noise etc aren't going to cut it for me. Sorry. If you choose to believe in magic, ghosts, etc, that's fine but please understand that there really isn't much room in the scientific world for things like that. It's strictly a faith based believe until there is scientific data to back it up. That data does NOT exist whether you think it does or not.

And I am telling you get up and find one in California or whatever BFE place you call home. OR like I said the door is open in my house come down here and Ill get you a one night stay IN mansfield Prison. There is a nice one..Rated on the top ten haunted places in America. But again it is easier to not do anything on your own and maintain in your secure surroundings.

I have seen people do that stay and leave physically shaken from the experience.

Not a nice place. No, i have not researched this one fully nor have I done the stay. Like I said I have children and my priorities have changed but Im willing to go with you inside for the sake of scaring the living hell out of you. Frankly I would love to have you there to either prove or dispove but your knowledge in sound equipment might make this a more interesting venture.
