swap partion

How much space do you all generally set aside for swap?

I've got around 700 megs for swap + 10 gigs for root + 130 some odd gigs for /usr.

Was thinking maybe boosting my swap up to a full gig... not sure if that would really make a difference or not. I've got a gig of ram.

I usually set my swap = my ram. 1.5G in 1 comp and 1G in my other. My laptop is the only exception, 512M with 256M ram.

Gaming PCs should minimize the swap file and maximize the ram. I typically go 50-75% of my ram for my swapsize.

50-75% is a good general rule, however, If you are getting little to no hard disk access during normal use, an increase in swap file size won't do much for you at all.

If you are getting too MUCH hard disk access, changing the size won't help either, it's time for more RAM.

He's talking Linux, not gaming I think. No root or /usr in Doze.

Linux Swap >>> Windows Ass swapping.

RAM and Swap should be the same size, like Gidan said.
If you do heavy transaction processing, make it 1.5 times the size of your RAM
