Heh I remember when I was apping for Sapientia when they were still stuck on Bertoxx. I personally didn't care if I was able to hail the spirit or whatever, I just wanted to see the content I prolly would never see, although getting the flags was a nice bonus. After my 2 weeks, I got my votes, I was asked if I wanted to join, but unfortunately I could not meet up with their raiding schedule as much as they wanted me to.

I thanked them for the fun and asked if I could join on more raids eventhough I was not an app or anything, and they actually said yes for awhile. It was some of the funnest times in EQ for awhile... hell I eventually started pulling for them on the raids cause their monks were very scarce at the time. (Even raided w/ FoF a few times cause of my monk buddy was an officer)

In the end Sapi didn't have to, but they did let me tag along and get flagged for all but a few mobs from elemental (think I had HoH trial 1 & 2, VZ and RZ left). I found this very nice change for once. I've seen many good points on the board here about good and bad for inviting others that are not apping or a member. But in some cases it'll make someone's week just to go along and see some of this stuff die... even if it is you to them.

Lyion wrote:Not inviting morons is perfectly fine. Not inviting competing guildmembers is ok, but dicey.

Having an insular arrangement with an us against them mindset results in a lessening of the game and guilds becoming small little cults fighting viciously to hold on to their 'resources' which burns out the core players and makes the game less enjoyable for the community.

And yeah, EQ is nowhere the near the game it was, despite having massive content. Hopefully the Inny people are more into 'fellowship' than the antisocials here.

We disagree in other forums some, but I agree with you totally. Id be in your guild :bandit:

People often forget that EQ is, after all, a game. No more, no less.

Depends on timing for flagging. I know the biggest problem in early-mid POP was the competition issue amongst the higher end guilds.

I also distinctly remember working on trying to get backflag agreements for recruits with other guilds and sometimes it worked, other times it did not.

The biggest problem now is not the "idiot" issue, but thinking you had a potential recruit, flag them, then watch them walk over to a competitor (typically farther ahead than you in progression) and have to go back and reflag another batch of recruits.

In Euphoria in 1993 we did this for POP as we flagged I think about 200 people for elemental/time and lost over 50% of them to other guilds. Then we got to do it again for the next group and lost most of them, after a couple of times the membership got pretty pissed off and many quit in frustration at lack of progress.

Wait till GoD for some really fun times trying to flag people. That expansion still sucks after nearly 2 years of release.

Actually, Fist of Fate has backflagged non members.

I had a buddy in Sap, who switched to his monk and needed a flag, think it was Grummus or Saryn, been a long time ago, when Kalac was leader.

I got the O.k>, He got the O.K. and he tagged along.

As for being insular, I totally aggree. It's like welfare. You know, some people do the every best they can and strive and make sacrifices and they get what they get because of the choices they make. Others who can't or won't make those choices, sit back and say "Your insular assholes."

Some folks (like my friend, for instance) need a small shot of help.

Some people will ride you like a french Whore until you run out of steam. And then switch to another whore.

It's really debatable. Should be all help each other, have a coke and a smile, and live in perfect harmony? Then, why even have guilds? Just have one guild "the Shiny Happy people" guild - who hold hands and frolic in the woods. On no, please, I mean, well yes, I've invested a lot of time in gettting where I am, but by all means, please, take a free ride on the Jetplane. I don't mind. HERE! STEP ON MY NADS AND CLIMB HIGHER> But, for the love of god, don't call me insular. Please? Pretty please?

I'll flag you if you say I'm nice.

Say it.

SAY IT!!!!

Hi Lyion

Let me say this on this topic. FoF had one of the better reputations on the server, hopefully it still does. We never asked for help with any of our progression on our 1st progression thru the EP gods on the way to time, we never allowed outside help from guilds that had already progressed thru what we were doing, ie. no one from outside the guild was allowed to attend any progression raid untill we had successfully beat said event atleast 2x with only FoF members in attendence and we never allowed any guilds tag along on progression they couldnt do on their own. We did it on our own, the way we see it, if you cant do it on your own then you dont deserve to be there as a guild. As far as backflagging non guild members. Its been along time since you played matter of fact I dont think you even played when pop 1st came out, but I could be wrong. Anyhow the way things worked while I was playing was that if you didnt belong to a guild that had already beat said progression boss, basically you were screwed, all guilds pretty much followed the same practice.

And Lyion, I did group with you a couple times. Once you af'd without telling me and ended up over the cliff in PoN

That bullshit right there is probably why most guilds wont invite people outside their own unless thru a backflagging agreement. Why because your just along for the ride. You have no problem with it win or lose its no big concern of yours, you will just ask another guild down the road to help you out. But wiping do to the mistake or the unattentiveness of a guild member or even worse a non guild member that was allowed to tag along for no other reason but their own personal gain costs guilds morale and quite possibly members.

Kalac you missed the whole point of my post. Quoting me going afk for 2 minutes to piss and dying due to Insanityfairs very poor internet connection, not checking her IMs, and an AF habit from DAOC are not a good example of why you should be an insular guild.

EQ is not a new game. You should be able to figure out who the morons are, or you are not a well run guild.

Also, there is no competition for POP, right now. I can fully understand being secretive when you are exploring a new zone or trying to make it through an area first, but, er, how many guilds have done POP?

Anyways, this is not about FOF, it's about the 'us vs them' attitude of most guilds in a game that's not teeming with the life it once was.

The reason you invite outside people is because it does strengthen your guild. Essentially you are doing it for community reasons.

I never said you were a revolving door, but maybe if you were a bit more open and less combative then you'd actually get to do those encounters you haven't been able to.

For the record, me making that comment was a joke. It did happen, but it's been said only in fun.

However, don't poor internet connection me mister, I had no lag whatsoever on my end. Letting someone know you go afk is common courtesy. Especially if you af them...not to mention you af the person who is pulling. And why on earth are you sending me IM's when you have a perfectly good chat box? I have to window out of a game to find out you're only telling me something in regards to what is going on in the game??! And if you have af habits from DAOC, I don't care, warn someone as to what to expect.

You need pie.

Anyways, stop tangenting the discussion with your personal issues, woman! Your managing to AF kill me due to warp lag while I was afk for 30 seconds has no bearing on the insular guild discussion. Nor you ignoring IMs one minute after sending me one!

AFing was a left over habit from DAOC where you had to move quick while PVPing. EQ has no such threats, and its just PVE, so the 'competition' angle is a bit silly.

Kalac makes a good point, but he misses the forest for the trees.

Stay on target, Red Leader.

You need to quit changing your story~

First it's my poor connection, now it's warp lag. First it's 2 min. then it's 30 seconds. :eyecrazy:

The excuses are strong with this one.

No excuses needed, I just dont group with Enchanters who can't multi task anymore.
Since then I haven't died at all!

Can't multitask? Now you're just being silly.

I'm glad sir that you got your own cleric, so then when you af I don't have to log one in for you anymore.

Do I need to send you both to separate corners?

You might. I think they are about to start fighting dirty.

*looks around*

Yep just as I thought I still dont see any currently active raid or guild leader discussing this pressing issue of how insular guilds are on the nameless.

Wanna know why?

They dont care.

Unfortunately this board is no longer a repository for people on Nameless. Well, that and EQ is a shell of its former self. 95% of the old school players and raiders are gone.

It's really irrelevant for me, as I'm mostly playing EQ2 and SWG right now, but this just reaffirms where EQ is and why the server merges and price increase are necessary.
