Mindia, remember where you said you'd behave and try to adhere to The Golden Rule?

Yes, but I was dealing with a small group of individuals who didn't understand something and it was frustrating to me.

Dont post anything personal and solely show your side. If they do not like or get your side, then stop posting, or post why you believe what you believe. Do not post at another poster.

If you get irked then step away or surf another site. Don't add the poo icon. Don't add stupid, idiot, or anything else that can be construed as nasty.

If I'm remembering from my Cisco networking class right (its been a while), the internet was, largely, originally developed and used by the army before it became a civilian shindig. Gore saying he was integral in CREATING the internet isn't the same as saying he invented it, as creating the internet was indeed originally a government thing.

I'm not a fan of gore, but you're being rather blind to the obvious here.

Oh whats the use. :banghead:

On an unrelated note, that was kind of a cool class. They taught me how to break into routers without using its password. :o

You are correct. The original internet was created by DARPA, or the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for the DoD with the purpse to keep communication up if part of the military were to be destroyed in a nuclear attack.

I knew Dave Burgett, who worked for DARPA. He caught me teaching the history of the Internet to my networking class and that's when he told me. I asked him if my lesson was accurate, and he smiled and said 'yeah, pretty much!'

My lesson consisted of drawing a crude map of the US on the board and "nuking" a couple of cities to demonstrate how rerouting of packets was supposed to work.

If Gore took the initiative in creating the Internet, then Arnie in California is taking the initiative in creating all stem cell research.

The wording he should've used is he pushed to help sponsor and advance the Internet. Facilitating its creation is not inventing, in my mind.

Kudos on the Cerf and DARPA reference.

Gore's recent statement that as a member of Congress he had taken the initiative in "creating the Internet" drew hoots of laughter, especially from Republicans. Gore has long been a promoter of the Internet, but he didn't invent it. Trying to keep a straight face, Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott quickly issued a news release claiming that he invented the paper clip. This was not the first time Gore has overreached. A year ago Gore told reporters that he and his wife, Tipper, at the time when they were college sweethearts, were the inspiration for the novel "Love Story." That came as news to the befuddled author, Erich Segal.

Calling you on hypocracy for first ranting about a vote by lawmakers that does not legalize gay marriage, but DID prevent all domestic partner rights from being stripped, then Second, turning around and calling me an idiot for asking if you were against domestic partner rights, saying you were all for them at the same time is provoking you?

So which is it? If you're all for domestic partner rights, you should be cheering that vote, not slamming it, since it does nothing whatsoever to legalize gay marriage, but does preserve domestic partner laws. In which case, care to explain why you were so outraged by it that you felt compelled to make a whole thread insulting said lawmakers? If you still insist on lambasting it, obviously you must not actually be for domestic partner laws, and you need to come out and admit it.

-Arlos

PS. What odds do others give on which Mindia Standard Option he picks with THIS post? My last one, he took option B, ignoring it. This time, I'm betting option A, the personal insult! 50 of my goats to the first person to guess correctly, ahead of time!

Since memory retention and reading comprehension aren't your greatest strengths, I'll just say it this final time:

I am against gay marriage, but I am all for civil unions where each partner in the domestic partnership would receive the same kinds of rights and benefits as those of hetero partnerships and marriages.

I'm not bashing you because you're gay, Arlos. I'm giving you a hard time because you devote an unprecedented amount of time and energy into protecting the rights of your ilk.

I hope this has finally sunk into your brain.

This is not a personal attack against you.

Whether or not I am gay is absolutely irrelevant to my stance on their rights. I happen to be heterosexual, but that's neither here nor there. Also, claiming I am of a certain orientation as a perjorative is nothing BUT a personal attack, regardless of whether or not you used a PC term.

You still haven't answered my central question, Mindia. That is: If you're all for domestic partner laws, *WHY* were you so utterly pissed at that vote as to feel compelled to make a new thread here slamming it? Very simple question. Care to answer? Remember, the vote in NO way legalized, or even in the least would lead towards legalizing gay marriage. It did, however, prevent doing away with domestic partner laws, which you claim to be all for. So, again, simple question Mindia. You going to answer it, or are you going to chicken out again?

I'm playing devil's advocate here. Why is it when people make rude comments to or about Mindia whether or not he has posted in a thread, it's okay, but when he does it he gets threatened with a ban? Everyone here does it to everyone, Finawin and I take jabs at each other ALL THE TIME, yet neither of us get banned. If you are going to have rules set, you have to enforce them for everyone, not just one person.

Mindia goes on the attack in practically EVERY post - and - he does it usually BEFORE he gets attacked.

He brings it on himself.

When someone tries to offer a different point of view, or asks him a question he can't answer - he resorts to one line (attempted insults) or posting emotes...

Also, it is the ONLY thing Mindia does on his board. You, Fin, etc. contribute many other threads and posts towards the board. Every single Mindia thread is exactly the same thing, almost universally, with a very few exceptions. Him posting something, someone else disagreeing, usually civilly, and often using actual, you know, logic and logically constructed arguments, and he responds with a direct personal insult, the :dung: icon, or a demand for the person to "shut up".

He contributes nothing, is the source of constant fighting and argumentation on the board, and is an utterly useless waste of bytes here. The board was a far better place when he was banned and couldn't post here. We actually occasionally had civil discussions on issues, and not ever once was the :dung: icon seen. Not to mention, as a 2-time bannee, he is, or at least should be, held up to a far stricter standard than other people by virtue of his past history, and his manifest inability to change his behavior, despite numerous promises to do so.

Yes, he should be banned, and permanently.

Arlos is just upset because we have massively differing viewpoints on social issues for the most part.

Arlos, if you are honest with yourself, and you went through each and every thread, you would see that it is not I that starts the mud-slinging. I will generally make a post saying something along the lines of, "liberals make me sick because <insert reason here>," then some smart ass atheistic liberal has to make a stupid comment like, "stfu you conservative pos," thus starting the virtual text "war." At that point, I do not go away, and I do not back down... I keep going with it because I'll be damned if I'm going to let some snot-nosed punk with little or no life experience have the last word with me. Then I get threatened with being banned. You want hypocricy? There it is right there... displayed flagrantly each and every day.

A blind man can see the BS politics involved with this board.

Here's some advice for you Arlos. Stop whining. You sound like a little bitch and it's not getting you anywhere. I contribute a hell of a lot more than you do, and always have since about late 1999 to early 2000. Every once in a while I see you post some decent stuff, but then you revert back to your same old Arlos-esque tactics as soon as anybody disagrees with you.

Seems to me like you can dish it out but you can't take it. My recommendation to you is to stay out yourself, or just IGNORE posts you don't like. Take a breather, go watch some more cartoons or read more of your comic books, but get the hell away from the NT when you're ready to throw a tizzy fit. An anger management class might suit you well too.
