Postby kaharthemad » Mon May 23, 2005 10:07 am

Anyone messed with XP Pro 64Bit Edition yet? Mainly I am about to start testing it for our 64 bit systems but wanna find out if anyone has had any problems ahead of time with it. i.e. does it work with games...driver conflicts etc etc

I couldn't get AVG installed on it, uninstalled it and put XP pro back on that machine. I will give them a bit mroe time to get it working before I switch over to it.

What do yall do that would make upgrading to XP 64 even worth the hassle? I wouldn't recomend upgrading to it for atleast 6 months after its release.

I tried it out on a test machine I was playing with just to see what it could do, wouldn't even dream of putting it on a primary computer for a while.

Ok since my copy was cheap I decided to give it a whirl. The main problem I had with install was the drivers were not readily available.

TESTING:

AMD64 3000 MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
1 GIG Ram 400 MHZ DDR
120 GIG Hard Drive
Radeon 9600

I took a secondary hard drive to test this. basically I installed XP PRo on one and xp64bit pro on the other.

after running 3dMARK on both systems the xp64bit system did have about a 25 to 30 percent speed increase when running the program.

I may have to wrangle up a copy for myself.
