Hey Canadians

Post by Narrock »

Well, the 4 or 5 of you who are from Canada... what do you think of this? Honorable gesture by the U.S? Too little, too late... doesn't matter? Really, what do you think?

I think it is a nice gesture, I hope it helps the families.

It's nice to see some recognition that, while we do disagree about things, the US and Canada are about the two closest allies in the world. A 5000+ mile undefended border, integrated trade and economy, continental defense integration, and a common langauge and historical origin. (ok, you burned Fort York in Toronto and we burned the White House, and there was that near-war over that pig on an island near Vancouver, let's skip those)

So yeah, it's a nice gesture, but that US pilot should be in jail. I'm so sorry for the families.

I like the US, I don't always care much for Americans though.

I like the way Canadians make beer. The rest is just the part of the map they don't show on the Weather Channel.

I thought it was a nice gesture. And that the pilot won't fly again is good enough for me. Accidents happen.

It was a fuckup. These happen in combat. Only particularly clueless civilians suggest imprisonment, let alone execution, as a panacea for friendly fire incidents.

It doesn't lessen the tragedy of what happened, but it certaintly wasn't a deliberate act of malice. It was a fuckup.

He radio'd in about what he saw as someone firing on him

he was told it was ground exercise, don't fire

he dropped a bomb anyways

Only particularly clueless military boys club people would allow him to get off with a warning

The pilot, who was court-martialed and reprimanded, said his superiors never told him the Canadians would be conducting exercises in the area.

Anyone have a link to the full story?
