Might try EQ2

Postby Jazendar » Fri May 27, 2005 5:33 pm

Bored out of my mind in WoW. Same thing over and over. I'm looking to try another game. And a lot of people that i've talked to in WoW say that EQ2 is horrible. But those are people that come from Diablo2 and crap so i'm not really going to take their word for it.
I played EQ for a long time and liked it, the only thing that kept me going, is because it was so damn long. WoW is repetetive, you do the same quests every time whether you're a different race/class or not.

Is EQ2 a grinding game or a quest game? If so are they fun quests, fun places to grind? Interesting settings, etc. I've got a new comp and it should run EQ2 fine (hopefully), if i choose to get it. Anyone have any feedback first hand on what kind of fun EQ2 is? thanks in advance.

That's pretty funny in an ironic sense. I talk to a lot of people in game who have left WoW for the same reason you want to... boredom. And they love EQ2 and have also said that WoW doesn't even compare to EQ2 in many different aspects. The one thing they said they like better about WoW was something about it being one big zone... no zoning or something. I guess that would be kewl, but that would definitely only be a short-lived advantage. Zoning is fairly quick in EQ2... about 7 seconds on the average for me.

EQ2 is a game you can solo, and play casually, or play intensely in raids if you want to. It's very diverse and has a wide array of content to fit almost every need. Can you still try it for the free month? Give it a shot. I bet you'll be hooked. I was hooked after 2 hours. Hope this helps.

Download Trial for the Isle and give it a whirl. That way you can see if its your cup of tea without forking the dinero.

EQ 2 is "ok" - I got bored with it rather quickly and didn't even make level 30. Just couldn't hold my interest... not sure if it was a "game" issue, or just that I've got gotten burnt out on MMORPG's in general.

Come back to Highkeep and hang. If you have a powerful pooter, its amazingly immersive and a wonderful part time MMO.

The problem with EQ2 is those who try to pigeonhole it into EQ, or want it to be something it is not.

I took a long break, but I'm playing pretty consistently now

I made a character. Is it just me, or is it only possible to be 4 classes? Mage fighter priest and scout? with the demo you can only play to level 6, and i got to 4 with my scout, and 3 with my mage, spent like 30 mins or so. What i like about the game so far is that it's highly customizeable, the character that is. Graphics are nice, and run smooth on my comp. One thing that's a bummer is that it won't fully go into full screen, still shows my bottom and top bars. ><

One question about EQ2, must you do the quests if you don't want to? Can you just grind your way up at the beginning? Or are they esential to progression?

Besides the citizenship quest and your hallmark (class) quests, there are no other essential quests. Grind all the way if you like. But it would be a good idea to fill your quest book up anyway, can hold 50. This way, if you happen to be grinding a mob you also have a quest for, youll get extra xp and maybe an item or something out of it.
You were right Tikker. We suck.

Yeah like he said, the citizenship and class quest is a must but other than that, grind away. If you do Tradeskills, you have a small quest to do. Sometimes you may need to do certain access zone quest but other than that it's fun.

Currently have a lvl 50 monk and not bored yet with the game.

25-30 is a rough patch to level thru but once you get past it things are a lot more fun.

Just don't go into the game expecting it to be anything like EQ.

I'm incredibly low on cash right now. I'm debating on whether to get EQ2 or Guildwars, i've heard good from both. And i've experienced first hand what EQ2 will be like. EQ2 is cool, but being confined down to one space in the demo is useless almost. Need to see what the big cities look like and the gameplay outside the newbie zone. I've got all the 4 classes available to level 6 (highest level you can get in demo), hehe. And since Guildwars doesn't have a trial, all i can go off is word of mouth. ><

Those are the 4 archetypes. At level 10, you choose your class (ex. Fighter ---> Warrior, Crusader, or Brawler), then at level 20 you choose your subclass (ex. Fighter --> Brawler --> Monk or Bruiser).

Also, to get to full screen, press alt - return.

I tried my friend's guildwars account last night. The game is fun, but definitly not what i'm looking for. You can't have more then 8 spells up at one time. You can't inspect other players. You can't even jump...And walking around edges and cliffs will bounce you back and forth. Lame. And it limits you on the ammount of players you can have in your group. I think I might try buying EQ2 and testing it out.

Suxvain, when are you going to start?

EQ2 has the potential to live a long life if you play casually.

I always say i'm going to start an MMORPG as a casual player, exping here and there. But then it turns into raiding 6 times a week and spending 8 hours a day on the game.

:dunno:

If i can remember correctly been awhile since I started a new character. But you have the choice of 4 classes and you narrow it down at lvl 10 and you pick your final class at lvl 20. Depending on your alliance depends on what you'll be.

Seeings I only have 2 characters atm I can only tell you that If you want to be like brawler(sub class lvl 10) which will be a monk(good) or bruiser (evil) at lvl 20 They are pretty much the same just different kind of skills. Also Summoner (sub class lvl 10) which will either be a conjuror (good) or a necromancer (evil) at lvl 20, pretty much the same.

It's kinda technical but pretty much every class from EQ1 is here in EQ2 just some with different names. No beastlords though thank god (no offence)

Sorry can't be more helpful in that aspect. I think EQ1 was their entire beta testing b/c EQ2 has almost everything perfect where EQ1 didn't. Also like how it's more quest based but 7/8 of the quest you don't have to do if you don't want to. Got rather addicted to them ><
