Australian chick goes to jail in Bali for 20 years

If there IS some baggage handler out there that is responsible for this, it's fucking evil for him/her to let this chick go to jail in some foreign country for 20 years.

The one good thing I saw is how they handled the case. It took 2 hours to set down a 20 year prison sentence.

What kind of doofus would put 9 pounds of pot in a boogie board bag and think they'd get by security?

Sounds like she was framed to me. That or really dumb. :-x

Either way, 20 years is harsh for 9 pounds. That's just my American opinion though.

Wasn't there a movie about this a while ago about 2 american girls that this happened to? If I was the president of Indonesia, I would have sent in special forces to help her "escape" and avoided this PR nightmare.

Yeah, "Brokedown Palace" with Clair Daines.

Does Australia have special forces?

That sounds about right to me as an American. Were pretty fucking hard on drug crimes.

If that exact same thing happend in America and it was a first offense, I don't think she'd get 20 years.

I dont know if you'd get 20 years for 9 pounds. I suppose it would depend on what state you were busted in, but I guarantee you the punishment wont be light.

Our government has a fucking hard-on for prosecuting non violent pot heads.

Interesting bill introduced by Congressman Sensenbrenner, your friendly neighborhood Republican.

http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c109:1:./temp/~c1099JcSGs:e0:

Here are some examples of offenses you would have to report to the police within 24 hours:

You see someone you know pass a joint to a 20-year old college student.
Your cousin mentions that he bought Ecstasy for some of his college friends.
You find out that your brother, who has kids, recently bought a small amount of marijuana to share with his wife.
Your substance-abusing daughter recently begged her boyfriend to find her some drugs even though they're both in drug treatment.
In each of these cases you face jail time if you don't call the police within 24 hours.

The legislative branch is the worst enemy of freedom this country has ever had. It sickens me.
