One is legal. One is illegal. If pot was legal I believe its rehab numbers would be similar.
I'd rather not legalize enough drugs so that we end having some of the drug crises that parts of Europe are going thorugh.
for those 3 million children it's illegal
also you're omitting something important here: alcohol is physically addicting, marijuana is not.
Here's a quote taken from http://www.drugfreeatlast.com/Kids-marijuana.htmlTetrahydrocannabinol,is the main, active ingredient in marijuana and it temporarily alters brain functioning that affects sensory perception, reflexes, and coordination. Because it changes the way people see, hear, and feel, it can impair judgment. Driving under the influence of marijuana is extremely dangerous. The fact that many teens smoke marijuana while they are drinking alcohol makes driving even more lethal.
Marijuana is physically addicting. Each year, 100,000 people in the United States alone are treated for marijuana dependence. Heavy marijuana smokers who quit smoking may experience the same symptoms of withdrawal as users of nicotine or other drugs.

The vast majority of sources I've read, and personal experience, say that pot is not physically addictive. Those people going into rehab are weak willed, similar to those who become addicted to gambling.

It could be argued you are weak willed for using Drugs in the first place.
Addiction is not a matter of 'will', its a disease.

when used safely and in moderation it is completely harmless, and the fact that it is illegal only serves to waste law enforcement man-hours that IMHO could be better spent hunting meth labs or kiddie porn distributors
labbats wrote:The addictive aspect of pot is strictly social. You have to break ties with all your friends to quit. Very hard to do indeed.
The most powerful addiction is peer pressure.

lol, that reminds me of a fun joke I did in school with someone lots of times:
(in really really loud voices)
Me: HEY MIKE, I HAVE AN IDEA
Mike: WHATS YOUR IDEA
Me: LETS GO BUILD A METH LAB IN MY BASEMENT.
Mike: I DONT KNOW...
Me: CMON... WHAT COULD GO WRONG!?
