Humor

Postby Yamori » Thu Jun 02, 2005 6:37 pm

I've been wondering if humor, particularly the things you joke about and laugh at, is actually an act of revealing your psychological weirdness to other people (sometimes, it obviously doesnt apply to generic knock knock jokes)

For example, if you get a kick out of slapstick, you're secretly a sadist.

If you're big on self deprecating humor, you secretly hate yourself.

If your jokes are about violence, you secretly have sociopathic tendancies.

ect.

Curious as to your thoughts on this. Does it sound accurate?

And I wonder what my sense of humor means, because I generally only find totally insane and bizarre stuff funny. o.O

Thinking on the people I know and what I know of them...I'd say no.

Wasn't there some study or other that showed all comedy and humor is at the expense of others?
Inside each person lives two wolves. One is loyal, kind, respectful, humble and open to the mystery of life. The other is greedy, jealous, hateful, afraid and blind to the wonders of life. They are in battle for your spirit. The one who wins is the one you feed.

I dont know of the study, though it makes alot of sence. I can not think of anything humorous that is not in some way at the expence of somone.
For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill.

I don't know, depends on what you mean by *expense.* When a woman gets married to the man of her dreams and laughs from being ultra happy - at who's *expense* is it?

I assume you mean by someone else's *expense* you at someone else's misfortune?

We're not talking about the state of being happy. We're discussing humor and jokes.

I dont agree that humor is always at someone's expense.

For example, this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen:

http://www.weebls-stuff.com/toons/aaaaaaaaaaaaahaha/

Its not at anyone's expense.

You've confused 'funny' with 'retarded'.
