Why the DNC is in deep Kimchee

Postby Lyion » Fri Jun 03, 2005 3:05 pm

How in the world is the DNC going to attract moderates with this type of rhetoric?

The US needs the DNC to compete and balance the GOP. It appears they may be giftwrapping the 60 seat senate majority to the Republicans by having Dean basically be himself.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington ... htm?csp=34

Here are some of the controversial statements made this year by former Vermont governor Howard Dean. Dean was chosen Feb. 12 to lead the Democratic National Committee.

"I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for, but I admire their discipline and their organization."
— Association of Democratic State Chairs meeting in New York City on Jan. 29

"You think the Republican National Committee could get this many people of color in a single room? Only if they had the hotel staff in here."
— Feb. 11 meeting with Congressional Black Caucus

Republicans "are mean. They are not nice people."
— Air America Minnesota, April 4

House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, "ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence."
— May 14 at the Massachusetts Democratic Convention

WASHINGTON — Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean advised party activists Thursday to reach out to evangelicals and voters in all 50 states, but then risked alienating potential GOP converts by suggesting many Republicans don't work for "an honest living."

Dean's comment came as he recalled conditions at crowded Ohio polling stations last fall. He wondered who could expect voters to work all day and then stand in line for eight hours to vote. "Well, Republicans, I guess, can do that because a lot of them have never

Most of Dean's speech at the "Take Back America" conference here was met with whoops, cheers and standing ovations as he attacked Republicans for "the culture of corruption and the abuse of power" in Washington, and accused the Bush administration of ignoring corporate "stealing" of pensions canceled during bankruptcy proceedings.

Tracey Schmitt, spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee, called the "honest living" comment "mudslinging" and scored Dean for attacking the work ethic of "the record number of hardworking Americans who voted for President Bush." Democratic Party spokeswoman Karen Finney said Dean was referring to "Republican politicians and Republican leadership, not hardworking American people."

Dean's remark was the latest in a string of provocative comments that Democratic strategists say fire up activists but complicate the job of expanding the party. "He's got a lot of pluses, and he fires off the occasional errant missile," consultant David Axelrod said.

Axelrod and other Democrats counted Thursday's incident as a missile. "That kind of language doesn't exactly improve our chances of making the case" to Republicans that they should vote Democratic, he said. Mike McCurry, a strategist for John Kerry's 2004 campaign and the Clinton White House, said Dean was making a point about "the pressures on working people." But he added, "Class warfare usually doesn't get us very far."

Matt Bennett, spokesman for the Democratic centrist group Third Way, called the comment "a poor choice of words." Still, he said, "I can't think of a single instance in which an utterance by a party chair has really had a huge impact on an election."

The spectacle amused some Republicans. "Watching a Howard Dean speech is a little like people who go to a NASCAR race to see a crash," said Ed Gillespie, a former Republican Party chairman. He watched Thursday's speech live on C-SPAN and "I just thought, there he goes again."

Tony Fabrizio, another GOP strategist, said Dean is the one who's out of touch with people's real concerns: "He's ranting and raving about Republicans not having held real jobs. It's hatred, hatred and more hatred."

Marc Hetherington, a Vanderbilt University political scientist, called Dean "the party chairman for our times," polarized times that began in the 1990s with the ascent of Newt Gingrich to House speaker. He said Republicans, if they were out of power, would want "somebody who stirs the pot, who gets attention, who speaks to the ideologues that fund the party." In short, somebody much like Dean. research

I think he's right about Republicans not knowing what a fulls day work actually is. Now, I'm talking about REAL Republicans not the wanna be's running around with their "W" stickers next to the soccor ball stickers on the back of their SUV / Mini-vans.

I'll never consider an average working class person a "Republican" - I'll refer to them as "wanna be's." Real Republicans are wealthy, rich, whatever you wanna call it. And, I agree with Dean that probably very few of the selfrighteous fuckers have ever done anything that you could remotely call *work.* They get their money off the backs of people like us.

I've always hated the GOP and will always hate the GOP. I don't hate the wanna be's, because I know someday they'll wake up... the day they realize that real republicans see them as low class garbage who's sole purpose on this planet is to cater to their needs and whims.

Fuck, Diekan, do you honestly believe that Democrats and Republicans are any different? Both parties run campaigns on the contributions from lobbies and monied groups. Do you honestly believe that, say, the Kennedies worked nightshifts for the cash to support their political day jobs?

Yes, they're different. Good God the DNC has always stood for the working class. That hasn't change much over the years. They STILL stand for US more than the GOP does.

It was Bush that wanted to take away overtime, do you honestly think a Democrat would come up with some shit like that?

Democrats and Republicans are similiar in some ways, but they're also very different in many aspects.

Both parties are so absurdly corrupt, and have such low caliber candidates (with very few exceptions), that its just sickening. It seems like they are beyond redemption.

I wonder how low will it go before Americans finally wake up and start voting for 3rd parties. If ever.

The thing that irks me is Dean is a smart guy and has good ideas, but for some reason says the most idiotic things. Given that Terry McAuliffe was nothing but a 'mean' attack dog over the last few years and the DNC has been stomped in Congress and the Presidency, you'd think they'd try a new tact to lure more of the swing moderate voters, instead of shoring up the whacko's who this kind of rhetoric appeals to.

Like I said before, they are gift wrapping 60 votes to the GOP in the Senate right now without changes, and that will completely marginalize them.

Dean acted like an imbecille on stage during his campaigning. He dug his own grave with his stupidity. But then again he's a democrat and nothing else should have been expected... Gore sounded like a retard too when he was campaigning against Bush. It's in the democrat's blood or something.

It owned an idiotic statment. Saying real republicans are all rich and implying all democrats are poor is idiotic.

We all know that the governing class of this country is more rich then poor. The poor dont have the money to get themselves elected. All these numbers proved was that there is about the same number of rich democrats as their are rich republicans.

There's your top 12. 10 are Democrats. The falloff from the top 5 is tremendous.

Oh, and Kerry married into money twice, Brin.

Bill Frist made his cash as a world renowned surgeon, so I really wouldn't link him to the others who actually never had a real job in the top 10.

Come on Lyion, I give you more credit then this. Thats like saying the top 5 are Dems there for Dems are rich and dont work while Rep are poor and do. Even the top 40 is a small grouping but its the best we have atm and thats at 22 to 18 (roughly 50% each way).
