new pc, thoughts?

I've not built my own complete pc before, so lemme know what you think of this. NOTE: I have a 6600gt, and a SBlive card i'll be moving from current PC to this one (assuming i get this shiznat)

If you looking at buying a kit system by all means check and research the warranty for it. in all Actruality ACER is actually doing fairly well on repairs, more so than DELL. One word of advice, make sure the MOBO is not a intergrated video on it. The power supply should be atleast 350-375 watts for a system of that nature. a 420 watt is a more than enough for what you are wanting to do and should suit it good.

Also make sure the MOBO is not a Proprietary thing, as well as the Case. Nothing sucks more than trying to replace a power supply with a razor shop case only to find out the case wont take a standard antec.

As for a system I would sugest going for the AMD chipset Intel is suffering right now because of speed over the AMD64bit system. Last month there was 40,000 CPU's recalled cause the 64bit chip INTEL released did not work properly. I do think this is the reason they hopped into be with Jobs.

I reccommend a decent 64bit chip.. if you dont wanna spend the big bucks on the FX chips go with a nice 3200AMD64bit chip or something similar.

It is designed to take the heat, it's not some dangerous side effect of their power.

The heat an AMD chip can sustain would burn an intel on the spot.

If you're REALLY worried about it, drop $30 for a very nice heatsink/fan. I wouldn't worry about it at all though.

I would go AMD if you have a choice. AMD to me is a far beter chip. Upgrade your colling if yoru worried about the heat.

as long as you have a decent fan cooler you good to go,. believe it or not the 64bit amds run 45 percent cooler than the 32bit processors.

Mine runs at like 30 Celsius doing normal stuff, bumps up to around 40c after a few hours of CS: Source.

It is also limited in quite a few ways based simply off of the size of my case, I have a micro ATX and two 10k rpm HDs in a tiny tiny Shuttle XPC.

It really doesn't run that hot though.

Not nearly as bad as my old computer which had 4 HDs stacked on top of each other running RAID-0 and serving files to everybody in my apartment complex for their music and gaming needs.

I'll see if I can find it, but at Tom's Hardware they did a test with 4 cpu
2 intel, 2 amd

playing doom3 they went and popped off the cpu heatsink/fan to see what would happen

the intel chips just ended up with shitty frame rate

both amd incinerated, with one of them actually destroying the mobo as well
