Thats right, religious people are perfect and would never do anything that would be for them and not others.

I am just saying that it only taked 1 bad. 1 group who forces their beliefs on others. I would find it very hard to believe that in all of history, there has not been a single group, not 1 that has forced themselves on others.

Statments like the last one Ganzo make it look like you believe religion is perfect, everyone else is flawed, when the truth is everyone is flawed.

well if you look at it in order my comments make sence.

gidan wrote:True missionarys who go out and truely help those in need without forcing their own person beliefs on those they are helping really are great for the world and should be praised for their efforts.

The ones who go into places that really need help and basicly say "We will help you, all you have to do is take our God and your God and believe as we do." Are just forcing their religion on the world with the pricetag of peoples lives. Join us or die.

Then

Lyion wrote:Except that's not how it works, as anyone who has been there would know.
Go check out a Missionary for yourself, Gidan, if you'd care to know the truth. If you want to truly understand then learn firsthand. Don't do what some do who have an Axe to grind, without having a real clue.

There is an ecumenical bent to missions, but it isn't at all like the silliness being stated.

Then

gidan wrote:So there are not and have never been missions where religion was forced upon the people they were there to help?

If you were not refering to his most recent comment when you posted yours then it was a misunderstanding, I was under the impression that you were.

The problem is if I say God doesn't exist people like Lyion and Fin go nuts.

If someone says God does exist, that is not an offense to anyone.

Things are not as even or as slanted as you think they are. If anything, this board leans far more right, and the majority of the opinions are akin to yours. So stop crying foul already, whiner.

The only person on this board that goes nuts is me :wiggle: (and mindia, but he's retarded and I'm not quite convinced it's really mindia still)

I only see mindia on the end of "there IS a God".

If anything I am agnostic leaning heavily towards a God previously having been around or isn't doing anything directly at the present. I'm not an arrogant prick claiming there is or isn't for sure with no evidence to either claim.

there are lots of missionaries who do good work

there are some that are self serving gimps

I actually work with a dude who's done 4 missionary...missions

He does it because he feels god would want him to do something for the betterment of his fellow man

His wife does it because she likes the attention and adoration she gets from the natives

I said, "There IS a God?" Hmm... maybe you can cut & paste an example of when I allegedly said this.

I do? I don't see it. I make points, but I don't believe I go 'nuts'. I've been reading this thread patiently, and merely making points. Interesting when Arlos or someone near your heart makes a wild far, far left claim you never mention anything. Hmmm.....

Saying Missionaries help the poor or Mother Theresa was a force for good isn't a sweeping generalization to me. Saying Missionaries are evil to me is. Again, certain people see through 1/2 a pair of rose colored glasses it seems.

big deal.

Missionaries are SELF-SERVING, not evil. Which is what I said.

I disagree, and the firsthand accounts I've read also disagree.

Of course if she did anything ecumenical, then certain people will automatically go apeshit and even if she cured cancer and gave it to everyone she would still be evil.

I suggest actually reading about her life, if one is curious. The claims here are a bit comical in their lack of knowledge of her life.

Also, I do call out Mindia often for being wild. This differs from some and the wild far left silly generalizations.

Well there is no one as left as Mindia is right.

And I do disagree with some of the left wing people here, but I just don't bother since there seem to be a legion of rightwing nuts around here these days.

What makes someone a rightwing nut iyo Zanchief? Someone who is pro opposite-sex marriage? Someone who is pro-life? Someone who believes in God? Someone who believes in the death penalty? My gosh, yes, that is completely nutty.

It's not your beliefs, Mindia, it's the fact you display a complete lack of tolerance, patience, and common courtesy at times when dealing with people of different viewpoints.

Any sort of ad hominem attacks during discussions does nothing but kill the good discourse that might be occuring.

You're much better than before, but there are times when you completely lose any semblance of rationality and civility when dealing with people of different opinions. Hopefully that will change and you'll continue to gain more patience and reasoning.
