Duoing with a priest

Postby Gidan » Wed Jun 15, 2005 12:19 pm

What do people think would be a good duo with a priest.

Sadly we are talking alliance.

I am down to either Hunter or Warrior.

Hunters have the advantage of DPS, the pet can tank great and the hunter can put out some great DPS however you start to get more risky with multimple mobs, its harder to keep them off the priest.

Warriors will have a lower DPS however when it comes to taking damage they cant be beat and they can controel the aggro of many mobs far beter.

What imbalance?

If you are talking alliance vs horde, The people that I am playing with are alliance though I personally prefer horde.

If its some other imbalance, what is it?

The priest already has obscene single-target DPS. I would look for a class that can provide a bit of utility and some form of crowd control. A mage works well, with free drinks for both, the best crowd control in the game and decent DPS. Note that this combo can do CC on either live or undead mobs. The ability to shield the mage and let him fire off some AEs works wonders against normal mobs too. One of my all-time favorite groups involved a priest and multiple mages. Of course, the conflict in speacialties (single target versus groups) is a drawback here.

A rogue is another good choice with sap for crowd control, and excellent DPS as well. The rogue tanks reasonably well, stunlocks beautifully, and rips up casters. You're combining two very strong solo classes, so even if they don't play off each others strengths particularly well, the raw power is impressive.

Never even thought about rogue, but that makes alot of sence too.

I play a priest (horde) and I spent the majority of my time duoing with a rogue. Always worked out fairly well, even at 60, for a lot of the reasons Xaoshaen said.

Used to duo my beta rogue with a shadow priest. We'd exp on even level elites with minimal downtime, as long as the priest rationed his mana use.

Warrior Rogue is the ultimate duo.

Goosse and I play this type of combo and MOW thru shit. I've played a bunch of different duo's before an none even come close to this.
Tossica: No, you're gay because you suck on cocks.

Darcler:
Get rid of the pictures of the goofy looking white guy. That opens two right there.

Mazzletoffarado: That's me fucktard

For raw exp/time it's difficult to beat two well-played mages. Glic and I used to run a dual-AE attack that was pretty ridiculous.

Rouge and Priest has worked pretty well. If you have the rogue primarily tanking, keep in mind they are going to hold agro best against single targets, switching between mobs that you are attacking can mean less combo point stacking and lowers your dps. Also with less hp evasion and a healing potion can do a lot toward delaying the need for a heal until agro is firmly established.

Really though a lot of it comes down to the priest, if you are the priest and good at it any old gimp rogue will do, just ask Insanityfair.

Ofcourse another option would be Warlock/Priest. The priest is more then likely a holy priest for this duo btw.

With the warlock you have the blueberry to tank and between lifetap and healing the warlock has more or less and infinate mana supply. Not to mention if the shit hits the fan, both can fear, the warlock can keep their rez stone up on the priest incase of death.

strongest duo in the game is probably 2 hunters~

the best duo all the way from lvl1 to lvl 60 raid encounters is probably mage/priest

altho, if you have warrior/priest you can add any 3 other classes and have a viable group

The MAge/Priest combo could be really powerful, though if you were to box the priest from time to time, I could see that being a difficult duo

It was my impression that many priests end up respecing to holy for higher end content.

If the priest were going to be boxed say 50% of the time, would you still suggest shadow? I dont know enough about the class to make a judgement on that.

The situation is, at times I will be boxing both chars and at other times hey will be played by seperate people. Now with 2 people playing shadow seems to make sence to me because you would have a person activly using the priest to heal, DPS and whatnot. However when the priest is being boxed the other char is going to be takign up the majority of the person attention.

Seems to me that somethign like a mage would take a fair amount of attention to be trying to do things on the priest as well other then just healing and tossing a DoT here and there.

I didn't specialize really in one area yet, still trying to decide if I should. I have a friend who is a holy priest but complained about ability to solo as well, shadow looks like fun but I kind of have my points all over the place and feel it works fairly well.
