I hate to agree with Mindia, but online colleges are becoming more and more desirable in the eyes of employers. Employers see this is a sign of a responsible and dependable person because it takes a lot of disipline to obtain a degree entirely on your own, which is what online courses offer.

yeah, not near as much discipline required to get a degree when you actually have to, you know, go to the school.

while im at school ill get drunk 2 or 3 nights a week, maybe 4 at the most, and i still maintain a good gpa, you just have to work harder the other nights of the week drinking is not done. Its all about weighing out the drinking and the school work, took me a semester to learn when NOT to party, and when to do it. Imo, nothing can replace the experience you get at school, as far as first hand in class experience and the social skills you get from outside of class. On Campus U. > Online U.

Not saying theres anything WRONG with online schooling ya know, I can understand some people just dont have the time for it with having a job amd kids.

Y'all are missing the point. Most people that do the online courses are NOT fresh out of high school. They are adults that just do not have time to devote to a brick and mortar school, whether it's due to family, job, whatever. Employers that see an online degree on a resume are pretty much assured they are getting a mature person that has already developed a good work ethic.

It depends on the schools involved. I've taken both online and classroom courses, and frankly there's no online course around that could push me as hard as my brick and mortar campus. We referred to online courses as "GPA steroids", for good reason, in part because they simply couldn't make the 80-90 hours per week demands on our time. Part time students that enrolled in the class would have justifiably been up in arms. On the other hand, I knocked out a few classes at a local state school, and it was about on par with some of the online classes I've taken. Overall, I've found that a classroom environment offers the most opportunity for learning, but not all universities take advantage of it.

You disagreed with Mindia. This makes you The Enemy, and quite possibly a threat, as he can't adjust to anything existing outside of his belief system. This precludes him from actually considering what you said, which leads to the abrupt and insulting dismissal.

I know...it's sad he can't actually discuss anything by taking the time to try and see the actual point of what people are saying and try to counter it with well thoughtout commentary and NOT resort to insults.

You said "JIU is a junk school." That was a stupid comment. The curriculum at JIU was designed by professors from UCLA, Carnegie-Mellon, and other prestigious universities. Now, would you like to reassess your comment?

No, I would not. JIU and clones could be run from someone's basement. They have no brick and mortar campus and no history. Completely online universities could disconnect their phones and disappear. Schools with an actual physical presence cannot do that.

Would you trust your money and education to some guy in a spare bedroom? I wouldn't and so I call all "schools" in this genre junk.

The whole setup stinks of diploma mill.

It may have been designed by professors from those schoold but those schools do not back it nor do I suspect theior professors teach for it.

A whole team of harvard professors could design an online school, however if you hired bums from the street to teach for you, your school wouldn't be worth a cent. I dont care who designs it, I care who runs it, who does the teaching and who is backing the school. I would rather take classes from a state school online then from an unknown online only school.

That just proves to me that you did not take the time to read what I posted about JIU and how they were accredited by the HIGHER LEARNING COMMISSION. Do you know what it means to achieve accreditation? It means that school has passed a rigorous set of requirements which cannot possibly be achieved by a fly-by-night school or a "basement school."

I would not disagree with you that there have been fraudulent schools available on the internet in the past, but they are being shut down by the government. All the ones listed on my original post in this thread are completely legit, and are high quality institutes of higher learning. JIU especially has made tremendous strides in the online higher learning realm. Browse through their website. Take a look at their faculty and curriculum. JIU is actually very impressive to anybody who knows anything about university study.

If you are not a fan of the entire idea of online learning, that's one thing. But to say that JIU is a "junk school" makes you look like a complete ignorant, uneducated fool.

You don't get it. If it's not a place I would trust to send money to then it's JUNK in my eyes. The ONLY redeeming factor about JIU is that you can get federal financial assistance.

Who would go to a place called Jones International University anyway?
