Beautiful news. Not so much on the age-limit... I never really cared much on that debate. However, the two sides finally coming together is a total relief. I actually think that the players win the most here... higher salary cap, lower escrow, 'fairly' low age limit... the owners didn't play hardball enough. Ah well, it's better this way.

I think it should be at least 20. That would really promote going to college, so the players can learn more of the fundamentals of basketball. That is something that the NBA really lacks.

what happens to the stupid basketball players? what are they going to do when their SATs are in the negative? Are they suppose to sit around and pick their nose for two years? Is this age limit thing legal in right-to-work states?

If the NBA is so worry about fundamental skills of their players, they should set up a minor league system like baseball. The draft limits set by the NFL and NBA are set to appease the colleges, since football and basketball are big money makers for the schools.

I was thinking the same thing Phlegm. Where are the good players that can't make it to college go? I don't mind an age limit but they should make a viable minor league so players can go there and wait it out. I guess the D league will have too do for now.

The age limit is stupid. It doesn't promote college, it promotes spending 1 year in college where you do nothing becasue you know your going to be leaving in 1 year.

The only age limit should be 18, and that is so it doesn't conflict with any child labor laws. beyond being an adult the age should mean anything.

Why? It's a form of entertainment. It's a business.

It's alright for all 6 cast members of Friends to make $2million an episode for memorizing a few lines and acting like idiots. However, it's 'wrong' for an athlete to DESTROY his body for 80 hours a week, deal with agents that make 150% more commission than they do from ANY OTHER form of popular entertainer, travel all over the nation at crazy hours... just because it's a "game."

Brad Pitt made $25million for his ACTING in Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The filming portion of the movie was completed in 5 months and the production (which he was also involved with; which he'll also make a sizable sum for) took another year and a half. The biggest risk that Matthew Perry faced on the set of Friends was chipping a nail. Athletes could DIE.

It's a business man. It's easy to argue why Brad Pitt makes his money - fans come to watch his movies. Fans also pay to watch sporting events. The winners make more money than the losers. The best athletes make the most money. The most popular actors make the most money. You build a team to win and you pay your players accordingly. There fact that the L.A. Clippers have had the lowest salary for the past 15 years 'could' also explain their abysmal seasons.

For the most part I think people in the field of entertainment are overpaid.

That goes for actors, athletes and such. Of course as long as their are employers who are willing to pay those amounts people will continue to make it.

What I always find amazing is when some of those athletes get injured and their contracts become void and they dont keep getting their millions they are all broke becasue they spend every cent.

Which is exactly why the NHL spent the past year playing golf.

They have the highest ticket prices *because* they have the highest salary 'cap' in the 'big 4' sports. If I wanted to go see the Stars at the AAC, the cheapest seats were $27. The same exact seat, the VERY next day for a Mavs game would be $12. The problem TOTALLY rested on the shoulders of the players. They *were* paid too much. The hockey players wanted to make the same kind of money that the rest of the sports world was making but they ignored one glaring fact: Hockey simply isn't as popular as Football, Basketball and Baseball. The TV deals for the NHL flat out sucks. The NHL got less for their in-arena advertising. The teams had to make up for their enlarged player salaries by jacking up ticket prices.

When it gets to that level, then yes - the players are DEMANDING too much money. However, you can't say that they are overpaid because it's the BUSINESS decision to pay them. The Knicks have the most expensive team in the league - because they can. They have the largest market. Unfortunately, their management fucking blows and they can't spend all that money 'wisely'... like San Antonio, Chicago and Detroit (all bottom 10 in total player salary and all playoff teams).

Pistons tickets really arent cheap either though, perhaps its more location than anything.
