I bought it. It's fun. I'm still sucking, but the single player is helping without making me look newbish. 9 out of 10 IMO.

Fun game, but load times and lag are horrendous right now. As soon as the Euro servers went online a couple days ago the entire system lagged out hardcore. It's still laggy today even with a broadband connection. They're trying to fix it though. I say give them about another month to get all the bugs worked out.

every time i think about playing an online FPS type game i remember just how much i suck at counterstrike and i am shamed out of buying it

This one is pretty newb friendly by the solo stuff. Gets your feet wet.

Mindia, I've had no lag problems. Make sure you're not joining anything with a ping over 150-200 and you should be good.

Might be time to upgrade my xp2500 cpu too. I can go up a xp3200 with my mobo. The only question is... is the difference between the xp2500 and an xp3200 going to make that much of a difference in the game, or should I invest even more money by getting a new mobo that supports the new athlon 64 cpu's? I'm thinkin I'll just start with an xp3200 and OC it a little bit. They're pretty cheap on ebay.

Lots of fun! Nice to have a reason to play on my PC for a change. I still need to drag my joystick out and get aquainted with the aircraft.

Yeah, hopefully a patch will be out soon that fixes some of the menu issues.

Anyone know the secret to using the TV guided missiles on the choppers correctly?

Those things fly so friggin fast it's hard to aim them with any accuracy. Is there a brake on them or a way to reduce their thrust?

We have some good news as well as some bad news to report on today. The good news is that patch 1.01 is coming next week and ATC is coming soon as well. Unfortunately, the BF2 editing tools will not be released this month as planned but should be out in July. Check it out,

Community Update - 6/30/05

Update 1.01 Coming Soon
That's right, the first Battlefield 2 Update is coming your way very soon. We've kept quiet about this update so far, but today we're going to reveal the major fixes coming with the Update. The best part is, every fix in this update is a result of Community feedback on the demo and retail game release.

Fixes

-Fixed issues that caused the Multiplayer Browser to become unresponsive.

We've added some new functionality and buttons to the Multiplayer Browser that make finding an open game of Battlefield 2 much, much easier. Issues users have encountered involving zero ping servers or browser hangs have all be addressed.

-Fixed an issue where some game controls were not available to be rebound within the Options menu.

Some functions previously were not available to be rebound in the Controls Options menus. These items have been added to make rebinding of functions much easier.

-Fixed a crash with rebinding LMB

Users who rebind the Left Mouse Button to "Move forward" rejoice!

With these fixes and more, it should be much easier to get in to a game of Battlefield 2 and that much easier to play it the way you want to play it. Look for this update to be deployed into battle some time next week!

Linux Server Build
Many of you have made us aware of issues with the previously released retail Linux server (2442) in both 32-bit and 64-bit environments. DICE has finished work on a replacement build and QA has been working hard to validate something that we can release to the community. Our goal is to get a fully operational version of the Linux server out to the Community ASAP. Stay tuned to this spot for updates.

BF2 Editor Update
Those of you who have been watching this space over the last couple of weeks are aware the BF2 Editor was intended to be released to the Community by the end of June. While we feel we are on the homestretch now in terms of being able to release a complete Battlefield 2 Mod Development Toolkit, we will not be able to meet our previously stated goal. At this time, we are committed to getting the Open Beta of the Battlefield 2 Editor released some time in July. Stay tuned to this space for more details.

Tomorrow marks the initial release to the community of a tool built by Foolish Entertainment especially for Battlefield 2 - the Advanced Tactical Center for Battlefield 2. Hopefully this will put some of your worries about the game patches and editor at ease. If you have a clan and haven't checked out ATC yet, I strongly reccomend it. It's a great tool for strategizing.

HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week.

Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days.

NOTE: If you installed and are running the newer server files (Win and Linux versions) we made available earlier this week, please revert those as well. We found that those files had the same issues with memory leaks as did the v1.01 update. You can download the older versions here.
