PayPal litigation payment

Postby Menlaan » Wed Jul 20, 2005 5:48 am

I received $8 from the class action settlement with PayPal. That's $7 more than I expected. Still not a lot, but I'll take it!

My money was deposited into my paypal account, which was closed by paypal because I told them to stick it their thieving asses when they withdrew almost $1000 out of my checking without my permission. I have no idea what I was getting, and will never know

Paypal also fucked me out of a grand. I got it back 180 days later.

They're now sending me all kinds of shit begging for my business because the account does like 50k in sales a month.

I could go into all the ways paypal blows but its to long winded of a rant.

I just suggest to any n00bs out there to NEVER use them.

How did the withdrawals work? Did someone access your account? I've never had any problems with them.

I sold a bunch of virtual items, on some game I used to play. I got paid through Paypal before I gave the guy the stuff. Approximately 20 minutes after I gave him the items, about 30 minutes after the payment) Paypal emailed my claiming the account that was used had been hacked, which what was funny is that meant the guy's email address and ebay account was hacked too :ugh: Since I couldn't prove I gave the stuff to the real person, Paypal reversed the charges. I contacted my bank and said Paypal did not have permission to withdraw money, but they told me it was part of the agreement I made with Paypal for creating the account. I tried the hacked route, but my bank would not fraud Paypal for me.

That makes more sense. I've heard a lot of situations where people were defrauded through PayPal. They recommend always talking on the phone prior to doing large trades so that you have a "real" connection with the buyer in at least some sense.

Having a phone number where you've reached someone is a whole lot more than only having an email address. Or I guess your vast world experience tells you otherwise?

A telephone number is tracable to an exact location and person, an email address may or may not be. Telephone records can also be traced. It may not get somone who is tryign to screw you, however when it comes to an investigation by a bank. Them having a number they can trace to a person and telephone records they can go by gives you far more room to argue the case tend you are far more likely to get your money refunded.

That was more than likely the person who bought from you that fucked you than paypal. Same thing happened to me one time. It isn't that the account is hacked, it's that the person sends the money so you think you have it and give them what they're "buying" and call the next day saying OMG there was unauthorized activity on my account hurry reverse those charges it wasn't me! So then they email you and say it was hacked, but it wasn't, it was just a way for a slimeball to slither out of responsibility of payment.

Nope... I sold 20k+ in computers the first month I had paypal. They said I needed more history with them before they could handle that level of transactions and locked the account.

Luckily I got most of the money out before it happened. They kept like umm 1200 or so in the account for 180 days before I was able to withdraw it.

Seriously FUCK those people.

You must have fell into one of their scammer warnings. Imagine if it was a ring, more like what happened to Paul, where the 20K that you tried to withdraw right away was charged-back to them. Then PayPal would be out 20K if they let it into your checking account (and then you removed it from it).

But 180 days is way too long. They should have had the money from the people who paid it to you much much faster than that. And they, at a minimum, should have removed the lock on your account as soon as their risk was gone.

Supposedly one of the main reasons they got hammered in their class action suit was because they would fuck people like me right before they had to report their earnings and capital and they would jack it through the roof by locking a fuckton of accounts like mine and calling the money theirs.

Thats a bad description but from what I read many of their ex-employees testified to this business practice.
