AV/WSG on other servers

Postby Langston » Tue Aug 02, 2005 9:28 am

I've read on the WoW boards where different servers seem to have different mindsets on the BGs.

On our server:

Warsong
- WSG is run constantly. It's not uncommon to see 5-6 matches running the 51-60 bracket.
- There are CP farming teams that will cruise through matches one after another. Some people on these teams are pulling in 300K+ CPs in a week which is causing a problem in the Honor ranking system since they've drastically increased the Faction CP total making the more "casual" players proportionally contributing less, which, in turn, makes it that much harder for a casual player to rank up.
- The Horde is drastically outnumbered (2.4:1) so Horde requeues and gets a new match sometimes instantly and the Alliance can have 1hr+ queue times. This is a heated topic on the server since the Alliance blames the Horde for some damn reason...
- GPUs are won or lost based on if you have a couple of star players or not. Those players essentially solo the match - either by soloing flag runs or being monsters in the midfield or by tearing up the opponent's flag carriers while playing defense. There is no coordination amoung pickups and people have stopped trying to get the teams to work together.

Alterac
- Just recently started running with any regularity. Due to the Horde being so outnumbered, it was rare to see enough interest, especially when the matches were starting with 25v40 and the Horde losing the middle graveyards almost immediately creating an unwinnable scenario. With the issues we've had with WSG being bugged and not starting new instances, more people have gravitated to AV for CPs.
- Alliance, with their superior numbers, never drop below 40 on their side which creates issues when it gets to around 2am and the match is still going. Horde people are camping to go to sleep and there are not enough late-nighters to fill the gap. This creates situations where it's 40v15 and the Alliance ALWAYS wins.
- When it's evenly matched (40v40), the Horde consistently beats down the Alliance. Just not enough population to carry it through to the end with people having to camp due to it getting so late.
- Matches have run for 14+ hours without a win.
- Alliance folks are dramatically further ahead in Reputation than the Horde due to their successes.

In general, WSG is worth about 5x the CPs per unit of time. I can go and spend two hours playing WSG and net 15K CPs. Two hours in AV might get me 3K CPs.

What's it like on your servers?

WSG is basically the same on our server except we laugh at the alliance for the population disparity. Pickup groups are pretty much the same also. I usually don't even join the raid group because people don't heal anyways. I end up #1 on scoreboard 95% of the time. Our guild doesn't do warsong as much as others do but myself and about 5 others including Insanityfair from here regularly do steamrolling matches for quick honor. I'm averaging about 120k a week. Whisperwind has the 2nd most unbalanced population in all of WoW.

AV is non-existant. I personally won't go there as it's basically a mage and hunter paradise. People have been trying to set up matches for every tuesday but it's not working very well. Also the way it's set up AV is worthless for honor points. AV has never ended in a win on our server since the first week. Alliance suck so bad that 10 horde can hold them off and the game ends before they can wipe the base.

We have one guy on our server that works really hard to get the Horde into AV. He's earned a lot of respect from both sides for putting in a lot of time to motivate people and get raid groups together to join the queue. Without his efforts, AV would still be dead on our server.

I did AV last night and picked up about 1500 rep points... it's a long road to the good rewards. I do ZERO instances on my shaman, he's dedicated PVP, so all of his gear upgrades come from PVP rewards from either the base PVP system or the WSG/AV stuff. I'm looking at running AV more just to get some of the gear there... it totally blows away the crap you get in WSG. For someone that runs MC/BWL, the PVP stuff is mediocre... but for me it's good stuff. I only wish the CPs weren't so miserably bad for AV...

Zul'jin is pretty balanced population wise, so matches tend to be fairly fair. that being said we, the horde usually pulls out the win. Horde seems way more organized on zuljin than the alliance. Alterac Valley wins in under an hour arent unheard of. we usually have atleast 3 wsg and 1 av instance up and running at a given time.

The same can be said for AV on Skullcrusher. There are usually two instances up during prime time now that most people have realized the rewards for WSG suck compared to AV. Up until recently the Horde owned AV, but now the higher end Alliance guilds have stopped farming WSG and moved onto AV giving us a better challenge. I personally, prefer WSG with 10 friends/guildies who know what they are doing. All I do in AV is spam multi-shot from behind the warriors and leech honor, it all seems so pointless for me.

AV is tepid compared to WSG. In WSG, a single person's contribution is IMPORTANT... in AV you're just one of the zerg. I don't feel any sense of accomplishment or the rush of adrenaline while playing AV as I do in WSG. I recently even stopped being a damage shaman in AV in lieu of healing. It seems to be helping the team more... if by "help" I mean they can zerg a little further.

Aside than what would be necessary to backup the assertion of a 1 hour AV win, I don't see any real strategy to AV other than getting a bunch of people pointed the same direction and rolling foward with momentum.... which is kinda the definition of "zerging".

Oh look at mister now i'm in Ixtlan band of high-school children I'm going to act like an elitist asshat.

How many screenshots do you want Nibbon? I could fill this entire page. Sorry, I was too busy killing Ragnaros when you were in WSG. How's that for elistism?

I do well because of my healers who are usually Syrena and Kon. We play as a team.

If I spent even HALF the time as what you guys do in BG I'd be right up there too. 2 weeks ago I played as much as I could to see what rank I could get, i was 9th for the week.

Nibbon - go be an elitist shit in someone else's thread, please. I'm looking for real information on how BGs are on other servers in comparison to my own. If you want to spout bullshit, create a "Nibbon's Bullshit" thread.

No, Insanityfair, if I'm in a group with you, I'm not in a pickup group.

i was just correcting you, i couldnt be an elitist because i dont even consider myself elite. you said you were number 1, 95 percent of the time, i said you arent. Then i edited it correcting myself, which was also asking a question, do you mean overall standing, or just standing in a game, because then im wrong and you are right and i just misunderstood. I know i didnt say it in the nicest way possible either but whatever. And i dont know how mentioning your healers has to do with anything, so does ixtlan group, thats probably we are so good no?

No, I'm nowhere near the top rank on the server. But everyone knows rank=time invested and not talent. (not saying the opposite either so don't get all pissy)

On Icecrown, horde dominates WSG, so alliance try queueing up for AV (but horde don't go because it's 40v20, beause we don't have the numbers). Like your server ugz, horde has it's top team that pvp's all the time scoring 300k cp a week, making it very hard for casual players to rank up. I supose it's a good thing i'm in that group...

I too end up ontop of killing blows 95% of the time in WSG...Call it skill, luck, presence of healers, whatever. But rogues have it SOMEWHAT easy to get killing blows, being that their burst dps brings a target down quick, as to where other classes are more of a "annoying them by slowing them down in wsg" thing. Couple backstabs and theres a kill.
