Xao again ill repeat myself. I think Ichiro is a more complete player. I am not discrediting Tejada, i said he is deffinatly up there. If it makes you sleep at night ill add him to the bottom of my list. :boots:

I don't necessarily disagree with your conclusion, just with your argument.

Would you agree that Ichiro is a better all around player Xao? Just a simple yes or no. Take all 5 catagories and where they rate.

I have a feeling that we'll weight the stats a bit differently. Ichiro is, for whatever reason, a singles hitter which is of marginal utility to a punchless team like Seattle. He draws few walks, so in a year where he doesn't have a spectacular batting average, his OBP suffers. He does seem to be developing better plate discipline this year; we'll have to see if that trend continues. Given his speed, he's been getting caught stealing far too often (36 steal, 11 CS last year), but this may well be management's fault.

Tejada obviously doesn't run much. When he does run, he's slightly less successful then Suzuki. He hits for more power than Suzuki, but has a significantly lower OPS most of the time. This year, of course, Tejada is outslugging Ichiro and getting on base more often as well. Tejada actually has a better range factor relative to league average than does Suzuki, but also tends to be inaccurate, accounting for more errors.

Overall, any strength or deficiency seems to be largely balanced by the other player. I'd lean towards Ichiro being slightly more well-rounded, but I'm not sure that either of them truly embody the term. Both are great players, and I'd rather have either of them then most of the well-rounded players, as I feel that it's better to be truly spectacular in a few areas and at least adequate elsewhere.

Rereading my last post reminds me of just how far the Mariners have fallen recently. It's been like taking a trip back to the days when Jeffery Leonard, Jim Presley and Steve Balboni were the power in the lineup. Junior, Edgar, and Buhner, how we miss you!
