I stopped using mine... it was just a phone book to me any more - and since I carry a laptop for work, I didn't need it.

I had a Palm 570C, though... was adequate.

I had a Treo 650 at my last job. It was great. The 600's are crap though.

I have a Palm Tungsten E model. $200.

For another $80 or so you can get a memory chip that plays about 3 hours of music and is in Real Player, so transferring music is so easy even I can do it.

I use it for addresses, for scheduling, calendar, video games (solitaire, chess, connect 4, galaxian, etc), and even niche markets are represented. My airline logbook works on that and then I back it up on my computer. Not to mention it's much less bulky than a laptop, and when I wear my headphones with it, I put it in my back pocket like a wallet.

pretty much all the PDA's out there will do the basics like that, and do it pretty well

The big thing you need to choose on (it sounds like) is whether or not you want something that can do the little extras?

I need a PDA to carry contacts, tasks, a calender with notes and reminders/alarms and one that is easy to take spur of the moment notes.

That really is important... I get lots of biz ideas on the fly and forget them if I don't write them down somewhere.

Other than that I don't need any bells or whistles. What should I get for maybe less than 150?

Both are about the same. Win used to be far superior but now the Palm OS has come a long way in the last few years.

ok personal experience. I prefer the Windows OS over palm the main reason is using for excell funcionts and such are a bit easier to convert from pocket excel to excel. I hate to use the word good and compaq in the same sentence but I do like the IPAQ's. However, the best ones around for windowsCE are the Toshiba's they are a bit more expensive than the IPAQ's but their service department is friendly and they speak english without a accent.

I looked at a palmone tungsten e2 today that looked like it would be okay...the cheapest I can find is about 200 after rebates. Does that sound about right?

which is better, windows or linux?

It's mostly a personal preference

they're both good, both solid, and both have roughly the same functionality

if you want spreadsheet functionality, either will do

if you specifically want to interact with EXCEL files, I'd go with the pocketPC (windows os)

like someone else mentioned, excel to pocket excel translates a bit better/easier than to the PalmOS spreadsheet

99/100 you'd never notice, but if you use a lot of the advanced excel functions you'll sure notice the diff

Does anyone read my posts? I think about half of the questions after my post could have been answered by donating about 11 seconds to read what I wrote.

I guess it depends on what system you are using on your office computers. That way you can sync them up if you need to. Make sense?

Just bought one of These from a coworker for $50. It's a nice toy for that price... doubt I'll ever use the phone on it though.

Nice price, Toss. I keep checking them out on Ebay, but with my lack of work travel lately I can't see the need for one.

Maybe Christmas I'll look for something that can do enough geekly things to merit a purchase.
