Pictures like this make it apparent why there should be much debate about combat operations

Are you upset about the dead soldier... or is the child that we can assume was now left parentless... or the fact that the child is wearing a marine uniform?

That's a one year old son wearing a uniform like his Dads at his coffin during his funeral.

Just think, that kid's dad would still be alive today if not for Bush unilaterally deciding to invade Iraq. He sure went through lots of debate before combat, eh? Thank you, Mr. Bush, I am sure that kid loves your choice.

or if Clinton would have taken out Al Qaeda given numerous opportunities. Not to mention those pesky towers would probably still be standing.

The dad might have also been alive had Clinton and his buddies like John Kerry and Ted Kennedy not massacred military spending on things such as reenfored humvees, body armor and better rifles among numberous other upgrades the infantry direly needed.

This entire war fiasco and all the blood of all those soldiers can be laid on the dem's feets just as much as on the republican's and G.W.

Those pictures by the war really hit home with me too. I think having served for 5 years probably has something to do with it.

why don't we just be completely honest with ourselves and say if it wasn't for politicians in general

you can hate one side or the other, but really.. they're all scumbags.. they're just scumbags in different ways - then some are just more charismatic scumbags then others and are better with words

in the end, the outcome is all the same. they get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to work for 4 years to be set for life thereafter - during that 4 years they make decisions that almost always half of the country will disagree with

yes, it's a horrible sad picture.. but i don't think it matters who was sitting in that office right now, that picture would still exist

I have to agree with this statment. It doesn't matter who is in the white house, the picture would still exist. It might not have happened the same way but it still would have happened.

Sorry guys, Im not letting him off that easy. The only reason that marine was in Haditha to begin with was because of our 'war president' and his policies. War and invasion of a nation should always be LAST RESORT. Was the invasion of Iraq a last resort? Of course it wasnt. Anyone saying it was is lying to themselves and listening to the neo-conservative lies fed to them.

A. Nobody forced that child's father to join the military.

B. When you join the military you understand the possibility of being deployed into a war zone and possibly getting killed or mutilated regardless of the circumstances behind it. Those are the possible and inherent risks associated with joining the military.

You're starting to sound like that ignorant woman who lost a son last year in the war, and now she's camping out in Crawford, TX hoping to get a chance to talk to Bush and give him a piece of her mind. Bush didn't kill her son. Her son died defending our nation and helping to liberate Iraq. It's sad that her son died, but she needs to stop acting like a freakin idiot about it.

Im actually all for mindia on dis one. It's true they havent started drafting people yet .. no one told him to go that was his choice to serve our country and he proly wasn't expecting to die but turned out he had some bad luck.

I don't blame the guy for dying, it wasn't his fault that our oh-so-beloved president decided that Imperialism as a doctrine was back in vogue. The war in Iraq is not "defending our nation". The facts are these: 1) If we didn't invade Iraq, that man would not be dead. 2) In no way did Bush exhaust all other options before invasion, indeed if you believe O'Neill, Clarke & the Downing Street Memo (who all say the same thing), Bush intended to find an excuse to invade Iraq well before 9/11.

You can't state that number 1 is an absolute fact, you can not possibly know the outcome of an alternate reality. While I would concede that the soldier would most likely still be alive, it is not a given. On point number 2 Arlos do you mean to say that your problem with our involvment in Iraq is not that it's unjust or uneccecary but that we should have tried other things before jumping into military action? I honestly thought your basis for dissent on the issue was due to an opinion that we do not belong there at all, not that we should have tried other things first.

Mindia does make a good point here. Getting killed is a distinct possibility when you join the military. People should understand that. You don't have to like it, but it is a reality of combat.

I think everyone understands this. When people join our military I also think they assume that they will always be in good hands and that everything they do will be in honor and respect for our country. Much of our military consists of young adults with no college education and the intent of getting one...and don't expect to end up in situations they don't feel good about, that are clearly not what they thought they would ever become involved in. And so many die.

There is a huge unhappiness right now about what is happening in Iraq and I am as equally as unhappy with the fact that countless lives have been lost due to poor decisions and a lack of preparation for this war (ambush) and this picture reminds me of how pissed I really do get.

I fucking support the troops I want the government to support them too and do what they have to do to get this over with and get our men the hell out of there.

and rumsfeld said "no longer than six months" that fucking crooked bastard.
